Well acutally there are problems with some neonazi-youngsters in Eastern Germany, but the majority is definitely NOT pro-nazi ;)

You can pretty much get by in Germany only speaking English, although not everyone will appreciate it. Germans also can't stand it when foreigners butcher the language, even if they don't mean to. I learned this at home, and experienced it in Germany. To be honest, though, even though my German is poor, I can't stand it when other people speak it incorrectly. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard.

@Paul - what a nice way to put it! On the other hand, some German words, though spoken incorrectly will show the German aborigine that you at least tried to make yourself understood. The truth is that a majority of Germans do understand and speak English quite well but listening to their pronounciation will give you another fingernail-chalkboard experience *grin*

@Tony - just come over here and have a look! Germany fits into Texas two and a half times (speaking of dimensions only) which means that you don't have to travel a lot to see a good chunk of this wonderful country. Many Germans will (unexpectedly) be helpful if not even friendly. We have a saying: "Wie man in den Wald ruft, so schallt es heraus." Maybe you take this as your first homework to find out what it means...
