greetings, i have been wanting dreads for about 4 years now, but my dad would kill me if i got them. Im turning 18 next month so i decided it was time to take that step. I was going to buy some of the wax but my friend put a few random dreads in his hair without any products and so thats what im doing right now. I washed my hair with Tea Tree shampoo and just let it air dry, and im just back combing. The one question i have is since im not using any real dread products, will my hair smell at all? and how long should i wait to wash my hair for the first time? thanks! (and sorry in advance if you guys get this question a lot!).

your hair shouldnt smell like anything other than hair. youll want to make sure your dreadys get completely dry between wettings. if they are damp for a long time, you could get some mold going on, but i think thats very rare if you havnt used wax (wax traps water in).
out of lazyness, i waited a few weeks after backcombing mine but you could wash them after a couple of days, or whenever you want. if your scalp gets greasy easily, then wash when it feels gross. if your scalp is dry, you could wait much longer (a month if you like) to let the dreads settle a bit. the backcombing will probably fall out either way lol
    good luck :)

i washed mine within 5 days of backcombing. i wash them more frequently than most people here, i do them almost every other day. longer if i'm working a lot or just being lazy. a little less now that i'm neglecting my bangs into dreads. ;)

ive been reading that you should pull hair apart, and these 2 are stuck together at the ends, but they are both really small, should i still pull them apart?
