Cat Drinking Out Of Tap

My cat will not drink out of her water bowl. She drinks the water out of the tap and will meow until i turn it on. I bought her one of those pet fountian things the other day and she isnt too receptive to it. I moved it into the bathroom beside the sink that she usually drinks from.

Does anyone have any ideas that can help me to get her drinking from the fountian??

I heard somehwere that adding a little club soda to their water will encourage them to drink because they apparently love carbonation, but I've never actually seen that work. Always sounded fishy to me.
You might just have to deal with the yowling until she realizes she's not gonna get what she wants. She'll figure it out. She won't dehydrate herself to death in favor of getting what she wants... that is, unless you have one of those Gandhi cats...

 

Thanks. I withstood the meowing storm yesterday but when i look at her i turn into a softy. I don't think she will allow herself to dehydrate completely either.

 

Maybe you can let her watch you fill her bowl from the tap but not let her drink from it, then set the bowl next to the sink? Gradually move it further fromt he tap until she gets that the bowl is her only source of water and she shouldn't be tempted by the tap again. It might take a while.

Lol, sounds lame, sorry... I've never dealt with this.

 

My cat will sometimes drink from the toilet;-) and she'll go to the bathroom in to too. not all at once though . When she wants it flushed she'll meow tho. its cute

 

After a few days, i saw her drinking from it Saturday morning!

 

Congratulations Cats are, in my experience, much more stubborn than dogs about getting things just their way. Maybe that is just in my house? Anyway, great job sticking it out, I just can't make myself do it. My cat is the same way with the water from the tap.

Don't worry mine does it too, I've gotten used to it.I'm waiting for the day when she won't be able to fit in the sink anymore.

 

our cat will drink out of the bowl,but prefers it from our leaking faucets.Hell,she even has a fascination with water draining from the tub..just a cat thing I guess
