In anticipation of the release of Geert Wilders Islamophobic short film about jihad and the koran, the Dutch have increased their terrorism alert to the second highest level. Nice one Geert, thanks for making the world a safer place in defence of your "freedom of speech". http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7281746.stm
You know it's all fine and well putting out this neo nazi propaganda bullshit when you have the money to protect YOURSELF from the repercussions, but now thanks to this idiot in the currently extremely fucked up Dutch government the rest of us who live in Holland now have to consider the possibility that me might have our legs blown off at any instant when we get on a bus, or walk down the high street.
This guys such an asshole. It's really selfish of him to put his whole country at risk like this just for some disinformation. I find it especially amusing how he said that the Koran is an "inspiration for intolerance, murder, and terror". This ignorant man should read about the last 1,000 years of Western history. What about the Crusades where we attacked Muslims and murdered and pillaged and raped millions. Chrisitian Crusaders even commited cannibalism of Muslim villagers in the city of Ma'arra in 1098. Should the bible also be considered a tool for "intolerance, murder, and terror"? This man strikes me as very ignorant and arrogant. Every person should have the freedom to practice whatever religon they want and that includes reading their holy texts.
If you agree or not, i think people can make a film about whatever subject they please. Thats a good way to prove something wrong, threaten them with violence...
I don't like the things this guy says. I don't believe in banning literature, which is what he says should be done with The Koran. He does have the right to say these things though, and the fact that it pisses off some people enough that the odds of terrorist action increasing doesn't say anything about him. It says a lot about people who are willing to kill and die for their tribal religious customs. What would you McLeod and DrT say about Salman Rushdie today? Not that this guy is the same sort of stand up bloke as Rushdie. but the reaction is similar from violent religious extremists. I mean obviously it can't be ignored that these are violent extremists simply because their using their religion to shield themselves from criticism.
The thing is though, look at the Koran. It does teach hate and intolorance. Kill disobedient women, kill non believers, kill infidels, kill foreigners. Yet everyone always says "but the bible says this..." so what??? who cares what the bible says, we're talking about the koran. I'm not saying Christianity isn't any less hateful, but everyone seems to jump to the defense of a hateful religion. In all my discussion on these forums people ignore the facts about the koran and just whine about the crusades. Hey, I dislike Christianity too! But what about these facts? How can anyone possible defend Islam as a peaceful religion???
There is an extreme fringe of people in the Islamic faith that give a bad wrap to all Muslims. Threating violence and terror attacks because someone made a film saying your religion was violent just re-enforces what he maker of the film is saying.
Yes, most people are generally good, even if they do follow a religion which became so prominent in a thousand year by way of the sword.
Where do you live, Texas? Were you born there? How many Indians did your ancestors massacre to get there?
I'm not trying to excuse Muslims at all of the wrongs they have committed, though it seems you're assuming I am. Muslims have done some terrible things, like all human beings, today and in the past. Yet, the Muslims have also contributed so much scientifically, poetically, philosophically, and so on. We should never forget that. I am merely saying that if we are to ban one religious book on charges of intolerance and murder; why only accuse one religion? Haven’t Christians, in the past and present, and even Zionist Jews today committing the same amount, or more, of intolerance? Personally, I'd be happier if we didn't have religions, maybe we could get along better. I do respect, though, the right of other people to follow their own spirituality, which the man mentioned in the article seems to not. If a person wants to explore their spirituality in Islam then so be it and they should have access to whatever they want to further their study. It all comes down the Nazi-like idea that this man has that we should ban certain books. This idea I will never agree with, though I respect his right to express any opinion he wishes. Also, referring to my older post I do think this guy is a selfish asshole for putting the Netherlands at risk for retaliation. Sure the guy has the right to say whatever he wants, but doesn’t responsibility and respect come in at all into the issue? As an adult you just have to weigh out the positives and negatives. Is it really worth it to put other people in danger just for a short slanderous film? I don't agree with radical Islam at all because I don't think killing people is any way to solve anything, but does that mean that it's going to go away? The fact is that it's there and by slandering another religion he’s putting his brethren at risk. I certainly, again, respect his right to make whatever movie he wants, but for the sake of other people. Did he really need to make this movie?
