Didn't know you could buy Absinthe now

I saw a bottle in a liquor store tonight!!! I was looking for the limoncello and noticed this cool looking bottle with cats eyes on the top, and come to find out it's Absinthe! And it's also 63 dollars!!! So I'm going to work my mom for awhile until she caves and buys it for us. She's into trying new things as far as alcohol goes. I have no money now so I can't buy it for myself. Anyone else have it around here? In the US I mean.

 

make sure its real, my hubby plans to buy some, but he is importing it from france. there is a limit to how much you can ship in.
During prohibition it was illegal due to alcohol, but not for its effects. Hubby is getting a good deal, I'll have to ask him where he found it.

 

yes find out! I'm really interested in trying it.. The whole process of drinking it over the sugar cube and the "spoon" and the water thing sounds pretty cool.

 

ive seen it alot here in the US at stores and everything. im fairly sure that it isnt the real stuff though like it doesnt fuck you up as much as the real absinthe would. theres something that isnt aloud to be put in it in the US types so its just straight up liquior. im not sure about this but its what ive heard. if it is true then your just paying for the name and not the true experience of real absinthe. im not positive but i would look into it more before you spend like 63 bucks on it LOL.

 

i believe wormwood is the chemical you're speaking of. i'm not sure if it's in the US absinthe, but i also recently started seeing it around. either they altered something in it, such as wormwood, or it suddenly became legal.

 

yea i think thats it i couldnt think of it when i was making the post. as far as i know all of the absinthe in the states doesnt have that so its pretty much just high proof liquor. i mean whats the point of getting absinthe if your not getting the real shit. if it is true that all of this shit in the us being sold as absinthe doesnt have that wormwood its such a scam. i bet alot of people fall for it and pay outragous prices for it thinking its the real shit.

 

I have had the real absinthe back a few years ago, and it was one of the craziest nights ever. First of all it taste like shit. Think highly flammable nyquil, and not the good cherry kind. Next partner that with a gram of coke and you have the recipe for either a good time or a disaster.

I ended up not diluding it and taking straight shots with a chaser. I dont really know much of the effects of the wormwood due to the fact me and my friend killed the bottle and I blacked out....

It's ok... A friend of mine got a bottle a few years ago when it was still banned and well it tastes just like Licorice. IT's not bad tho.

that was stupid, don't you know wormwood is poisonous? if you and one other person killed a bottle, then you are probably both lucky to be alive.
its also likely that that is why it tasted like shit.

 

anyway, the US has a limit of 2.25 l = 225 cl

the bottle we want is 70 cl, so we can get 3 bottles.

hey all marilyn manson has a new brand of absinthe (since its his fav drink) called "mansinthe"

 

bleh... absinthe is nothing special.... people just used to think it made you hallucinate and go mad.. but its just very high percentage alcohol.

just put 3 shots of vodka in a lil cup, put in some mouth wash, pretend your a giant having a usual size shot.. and thats absinthe for you.

 

my point is that i dont tell her what to put in her body and how, so since it doesnt even concern anything you have to say, you should mind your own buisness as well

And yes I saw that "mansinthe" online somewhere.

I was reading about it last night after I made this post, and I found out that they did prove that it did NOT cause hallucinations, but they still don't know whether or not it causes effects on our minds or something like that. I guess it's supposed to be a clear drunkenness or something.. Like lucid dreaming.

They also think that the chemicals from the dyes that they put in it to make more vivid in color back in the 19th century might have caused some people to think that they were hallucinating.

All in all.. I'm going to try to get some authentic stuff online, and forget about the stuff in the local liqour stores. I want to try the real thing, and buy the real absinthe spoons and stuff too. It just seems like an awesome experience.
