The "so you can smoke too much" thread got me thinking about something. I've always thought that the cognitive effects have pot have been the only real downside of smoking, I'm talking about the decrease in memory, problem solving, thought, etc. that occurs. I've smoked pot before that didn't decrease these abilities that much before but the vast majority of the time it does and sometimes it does alot. Its the one thing about pot I hate, I really don't like not being able to think/reason clearly. Sometimes I literally feel retarded, like my mind has turned into a useless hunk of shit and all I can do is sit there like a vegetable. Does anyone like this aspect of pot?

Happens to me very rarely, usually after smoking too much shitty pot. Maybe you should up the quality if that's the problem. Weed usually gets my mind going and it doesn't like to stop. Also I seem to be better at complex math when I am high.

occasionally, when I am really high, I think too fast, and usually have between 2 and 5 things I'm thinking about. I really enjoy thinking and learning when I'm high, and I have a good memory. Sometimes its hard to retrieve a certain memory, or if somebody changes the subject, I lose the thought by trying to follow the new conversation and remember what I wanted to say in the last one.
Maybe you can find something to do while high that stretches your brain cells. personally, I like word and logic problems that I can solve visually.

when i smoke i think really deeply and completely over think anything. so writing and reading are really fun when im high. but i dont usually feel stupid. on other drugs sure, but not weed. like others said, it might be just crappy weed, smoke better stuff.

Infrequent smoking definitely makes one smarter, more creative, and more able to think outside the box. Heavy smoking DEFINITELY reduces mental sharpness, memory, etc.

Every body is different, you cant say that heavy smoking definitely does anything, because its a blanket statement. Not only that, there are different levels of cognitive loss. maybe you forget your keys more often, or maybe you forget where you live.
I thrive on learning, so I have trouble remembering where I learned something, but not usually what I learned.

yes, but only after smoking. i hate when people say it makes you forget things, because they don't mention the fact that that's what happens right after smoking during the high, not the next day or whatever.

I get what you mean... I guess sometimes it's worst then other times, but it's just something we gotta deal with. Nothing's perfect.

I'm not sure how to answer this question because I don't necessarily agree with the thought that smoking makes you stupid if you smoke a lot. I got through almost an 8th a day and have done so for easily 10 years, if not more.
I started smoking when I was 13 and that was a few years ago, since then I graduated college (3.83GPA), work full time, and in 10 years at my job have never missed a day or been late to work. I have been promoted several times and work on problem solving tasks daily with no difficulty. I would say that all people who interact with me consider me to be normal or above average in terms of intelligence and if you didn't know I smoked, I don't think you would be able to tell based on the thought that people somehow get stupid after long term heavy use. In my life I just don't see evidence to support this.

What I would say is I believe we tend to remember bad examples better than good ones. The guy who smokes a lot of weed and is a real goof stands out and by partnership the weed gets the bad rap. In other words people tend to think that so and so is a stoop simply because he smokes weed when in reality he would be considered a stoop with or without the weed. By the same token the guy like me or several people that post here don't get noticed as much because we blend in and function well with so called "normal" society.
I would also add to this that there are some people who roll very comfortably with dope, others who don't. Personally I have never been a fan of alcohol. I don't like being drunk, I have never found a drink I really lust for, and I always end up with a hang over. That being said I am sure there are folks who drink daily and are fine with it, to each their own eh?

i rarely ever feel like that, but sometimes after smoking a whole shit load of weed i'll feel burned out and really stupid, like my mind isn't clear or something.. and i'll end up stuttering my words and not able to get sentences out and shit

it's really annoying when it does happen
