I saw in the paper today that hearing loss and tinnitus (a constant ringing in your ears) are the most numerous reported and treated permanent injuries from our current middle east escapade.

I thought that sounded kindof poetical (an unseen, lifelong injury from the carnage of modern warfare; a physical symbol of the constant tolls of war).

So i though it'd write a poem (even though my biggest poetic influence is probably doctor seuss). some of you more serious writers could probably do much better working tinnitus into a war poem.

so consider this an open invitation, write whatever you think is appropriate, and feel free to critique mine (don't be too mean, keep it realtively constructive).

The mortar shell splits the sky.
    Rains down death,
    and takes it's tithe.

    It broke our bones,
    took our men,
    decimated our force,
    then came again.

    The whistle of eris,
    in the celestial dome
    enters the ears
    and chills the bones.

Each night I want to die,
    to escape the wrath,
    of her terrible cry.
