So, I am moving in with my older sister soon, and Im allowed to do some decorating. I really love the fresh, clean smell of your house when you walk in from a long day... However, I really dont want to use burnable insence or candles because of the chemicals.... so I was thinking, what if I loaded the house with plants? and I'm not a plant expert or anything, so is there some sort of flower/fern/leafy plant that purifies the air more than average? And also, are there any flowers that smell good through spring to late summer? I've searched the web and nothing seems to really jump out at me. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. - I re-read this and I sound like a clean, health freak with all this talk of chemicals, but I thought there might be a way to scent your home with living things rather than fire or heat...? lol
What you are looking for could probably better be served by purchasing cut flowers on a regular basis.
spider plants! they are so easy to take care of, and are the best for purifying the air. find a friend with one, and take some of the babies. stick them in a pot of soil, roots just barely covered. water well once a week. beware: if you have a cat, put it out of their reach. cats love to eat them! other good house plants for air purification: philodendrons, ficus, aloe, and ivy
Ok! yeah i did think of flowers, but they are sad to me because they die quick. but spider plants seem like a great idea! just wondering, is a spider plant similar to an "air plant"? or are they totally different? well thanks for the replies, friends!!
the (Madagascar, Janet Craig) dragon tree variety of houseplant was tested in this NASA story I read about & is said to be one of the best varieties for air purification
Thanks for the suggestions! i lookd into the dragon tree, and it looks very cool, so ill try and see where i can buy one! thanks! and wynd, ive seen those flowers before and thought they were very sophisticated and pretty, but i had no idea they were good air purifiers! ill get some!
i have lots of house plants....love them . a couple of philodendrons,"a wandering jew", a beautiful sort of palm tree, a big spider plant, aloe, a couple of sage, ivy. if you find someone with a spider plant, just take one of the "babies" and let the roots start in a glass of water then transfer to a pot. the roots grow very quickly.
