Contrary to what most of you believe,India still retains a certain balance between traditional values and modern ones. And face it,no country can survive nowadays if it doesn't modernize. That's the unfortunate truth.Atleast India has survived this long and is still maintaining a balance.Sure there may be malls and MNC campuses springing up all over the country but traditional values continue to be upheld by many. And the good part is,the need to preserve traditional Indian values is indeed recognized by most Indians, including those who are well off or settled abroad, such as myself.Only time will tell what the future holds for India.

Tharavadu, thanks for posting up the nice photos from India in your gallery. I've been to Kerala, and it was the highlight of my trip to India! What a great place! :)

guys guys guys. lemme lay this to rest.
Background: I was an NRI as a child. (lived in the middle east). I have lived in MUMBAI- the commercial capital of india for most of my life, even then in the South hip snobbish part of the city. I moved to Pune, (the idyllic, boho, literary-arty twin city.) I have travelled sufficiently to small towns, villages, towns etc(in all parts in india). I have interacted with people from all walks of life- i.e right from the biggest armani sporting businessmen/celebs, to the chaiwalla who can speak english in big cities, to young scared but ambitious girls in small towns who want to travel beyond the stars.
Basically what im trying to say is although i lead a cushy life in a big city, im not speaking in a biased manner.

Ok on to my point now:
    There are 2 India's-
One is India- the ultra exotic cool hip, mysterious India, full of saints, sadhus, spices, tantra, mantra and all that gibberish for the firangs- foreigners to enjoy and then switch off back into their airconditioned hotels / cars where bellhops and drivers speak english. Where there are doctors and hospitals, where you get wifi connectivity, cheese from france, and chocolates from switzerland, cocaine from colombia. Where we go to hip urban schools, and groove to lounge/house/hip-hop/rock or whatever it is theyre tuning into nowadays. Where we drink absolut and wear FCUK, where we study about world economies, and advertise the new 2008 Audi A8 L 6.0 W12 quattro. Where you can safely say you went to india, saw india. and oh it was lovely.

there's another india no1 wants to know. Bharat- the sanskrit name for india. Where minimum wage labourers toil in the burning sun, for hours just to feed 4 of their 6 children, and oh wait 2 died when they were babies, and there was one miscarriage. Where fathers kill daughters as they cant afford the dowry. Wher farmers commit suicide as they cant compete with standardised and retailed grocery giant corporations anymore. Where entire villages havent seen electricity, ever. Where girls arent meant for an education. Where women are raped, where boys are raped. Where households run on less than a dollar for 6 months. Where some people have never seen the indian equivalent of a value of a dollar. Where people are dying of strange illnesses for theyve never seen a hospital. Where politicians are filling theeir own pockets, and anything involving governmnt paperwork- you PAN Card(its like a social security number), or a drivers license involves greasing the palms of a few greedy babus. Where you know the law will always favour the rich businessman's filthy son who drove over beggars sleeping on the sidewalk coz he was too high-strung on cocaine and whisky.

    Thats india.

THATS BEAUTIFUL MAN......I HAVE SIMILAR FEELINGS FOR INDIA...I WAS BORN AND BOUGHT UP IN INDIA....NOW IM DOIN UNIVERSITY IN DUBAI....AND LEMME TELL YOU, ITS PAIN OVER HERE MAN....THERES NO SUCH PLACE AS INDIA.....every trip i take to the country always leaves me wanting for me, even though ive spent most of my life there....

India is where the happiness is, where the real people are, where friends actually feel for you, where love and sorrow come from the heart. Come to India and only then judge what India is about. I hate the stereotype that Indians have formed amongst non-Indians.

So you're saying that everyone except Indians are fakes? That nobody else feels true emotions?

he is not meaning in that way if u say cocaine is only from Columbia its not like we cant cocaine from anywhere he is trying to say that India represents those feelings. i am an Indian i am always proud to be Indian but i am not going to preach peace and all our history i am going to get into the corrupted system and screw the happiness of all the people who are spoiling our beautiful country its not going to happen in a single day but slowly i would penetrate at least a very small module of this system and set it right it may be my street or my area or my town or district don't know how far i can reach but i will do something .
