So 2 out of the 4 places I intended to apply for a second job do random drug testing. I'm perfectly willing to get clean to pass a drug test, (been clean for 2 weeks) but random testing? Are they fucking kidding me? Completely unconstitutional and I am pissed. Apparently even though I'm a good employee I can't get on at the place right across the parking lot from my current job (which would allow me to walk right over) because even though I've not once been unable to do my job because of my "habits", they would still not even give me a chance to fucking prove myself. Bastards. I can deal with the initial test. But to stick their noses in my private life when there's no cause or reason to believe I'm doing something that could hinder my job is just wrong. We stoners need good jobs too. What if they tested for nicotene and denied jobs to tobacco smokers? I highly doubt they'd quit smoking for a fucking job. This is a lifestyle and I don't intend to sacrifice how I choose to live to please someone else, nor should they in turn deny stoners jobs when they are perfectly capable of being a damn good employee. We have to eat too, and we shouldn't have to sell out for the privilege.
    Fuck them.

It is the way it is. If it is a good job then it is worth quitting. Been there done that with no regrets. Alot of places that claim random testing either don't do it (the threat is enough), will have it scheduled (not really random but you can see them working through the alphabet), then there are the places that are testing Nazis. If you were to "clean" your system (abstain till you are clean) there is no reason that you couldn't toke on a Friday and be clean by Monday or Tuesday (and I don't mean 5 blunts on a Friday btw) :)

Priorities such as rent, food and such should weigh in on the decision.

    Good Luck!

i know what ya mean and i agree with ya.. as long as you don't bring your drug habits onto the job with you then i don't see a reason why they couldn't hire somebody. but that's just the way it goes i guess

good luck with the job hunt

    good luck though

job searching sucks even without drug testing. I never even realized they do drug testing for normal jobs in the states until I came on these forums, it would be fucking bullshit to have to first sort through which jobs to go for and then have to filter out the ones that drug test.

    maybe go to Canada?

Its all about liability - someone gets hurt at work they expect lawsuits.

Also, some employers' insurance requires them to drug test, but I doubt you're applying to be a heavy equipment operator or something if you're 20, so it sounds like they're just dicks. Well, that's life, and all you can do is complain about it on the internet, because employers sure don't care.

Hopefully you'll have some luck. I don't know how Alabama is like or what kind of jobs you're applying for, but in Pennsylvania, it seems like most locally owned businesses don't drug test whereas the national chains do. I've had a few jobs at nonprofits too, and they've never drug tested me either.

Or maybe they don't even care about marijuana. Certainly, nobody wants to hire somebody addicted to hard drugs, so drug tests aren't completely absurd in my opinion. Maybe you should ask them before giving up completely. I know somebody who did the same thing at a local grocery store chain and they told him that they didn't even care about pot. Then again, maybe they'll call the cops and tell your employer. I've never been to Alabama, so it might be a stupid idea to follow my advice.

I've heard lots of people on here talk about how their employers are/were cool with it and sometimes even smoked with them. I don't know where they found such good jobs though. One place I'm applying said they'd like to be notified if the applicant is taking any drugs, and unless I read it wrong I got the impression they were saying that depending on the drug, they might hire you anyway. So maybe they don't care about pot smokers? Not sure though.

Yeah, unless its a dangerous or professional job, or with a huge chain they wont test. Its a waste of their money.

Just my two cents, most places say "random drug testing" so they can test you if they suspect you're doing something... sort of like how they say "random bag searches" at airports. Just don't get high anywhere near your job and you probably won't be tested. And if you are selected, quit and don't take it (I'm 90% sure you can do that) so then you can just look for another job.

Well, I chose the places I did because I have two years of experience. So I won't start out at base pay, I should get a little more. Seven dollars an hour if I'm lucky, more if I'm motherfucking lucky, I don't know yet. What would I do at a car wash? I'd rather look pretty and do paperwork and run a front end. :p It's what I'm good at.

Look you seem pretty smart so do not limit how far you can progress in a career. For example, consider a banking job, it is tough work but the pay gets good and you can always find employment. A good bank would pay ~$10 -$14/hour. You are young so work on building the resume. Check companies for office work if you like that stuff. A pretty smile will work wonders during job interviews.

Nothing personal to car wash workers but they are either summer jobs or people who have maxxed out their potential.
