Last week I was a guest on the local radio station and talked about going barefoot as a lifestyle choice and mentioned the health benefits and how there are no state or federal laws against going barefoot, cleanliness, and other issues.

This is the link to the radio show- the discussion about going barefoot starts after 25 minutes from the beginning of the file, so you may want to download it first then open it later so you can fast-forward 25 minutes.

Over the weekend the weather got really warm and I saw a whole lot more barefoot people around town. I wondered if they'd heard the radio show...

Well! That was a good presentation of the pros of barefooting, really. Also, a nice reference to the SBL (and that little side note of the name change that took place... I liked the old name, as it was a nice play of words - however, of course, the word "dirty" is a marker for unwanted connotations). Some of what you said sounded familiar, as having read it on the barefoot facts pages of the SBL formerly known as DSS... and the tone kind of rang a bell, when thinking about SBL mailing list posts...

And on the context of evolution, in which barefooting was placed in the radio show, it is a good valid point that was made by Jessica, the presenter, to say that humans did indeed evolve barefoot.

A very good performance, really, and able to promote barefooting not as weirdness, as most people might see it, but as a personal choice, a healthy way to walk and a means of adding to diversity. Nice comment by the first caller after the music break, too, in that respect.

Thanks for sharing it, and happy barefoot days,

Hey - I really enoyed the barefooting discussion on this call-in show, even though it was brief. My only wish would have been for you to turn it around on the hostess and ask her if she enjoyed going barefoot beyond just inside. I find that when a barefooter is interviewed, trying to build a bridge to get the interviewer to admit that they understand and enjoy the experience is a really positive step for the acceptance of the idea. But I'm nitpicking - really cool interview and congratulations on raising awareness of our cause, and we can hope that it will draw people to open their minds to our way of being!

Good suggestion Matthew. The interviewer did mention that her feet felt confined in her shoes, and that would have been a good time to ask her. I'll be hosting my own shows in the future and will try to get more people to call in and discuss the topic.

The UK barefoot hikers were featured in a newspaper article about four years ago. The reporter accompanied us on a hike in the Welsh mountains, and though he started out barefoot, it was a very rough trail and he soon had to put his boots back on! He asked Colin if he had a high pain threshold...It was the Saturday Telegraph, i believe. The photographer took a shot of my right sole, to show there was no damage after five miles of gravel and crushed rocks, a good day out!
