Hi. I was transferring everything from one computer to a new one recently. I burned all my music onto CDs, as data CDs so that they could hold the maximum amount of files. Now I'd like to put the music back onto the computer, I have Vista. It seems I can only copy the songs in order to burn them again onto another CD, because my data CD is read-only. But if you can burn it again, couldn't you burn it like as audio files, so that then you could import these newly burnt CDs? Anyways, I'm sure I could find a program on the net to help me do it in one shot, but I don't know what to look for, I'm not clear on the terminology. Any suggestions? I use iTunes.

    Thanks! [IMG]

What's wrong with selecting the files, copying them, and then pasting them to the new directory?

Yeah what he said. I don't know if I can bring myself to help with Vista... not until they make it less like a crippled dog and more like a flying monkey.

Yeah I know it sucks, the computer was free though.

If I try to copy like that, it just makes shortcuts that link back to the originals so you still need the CD in the drive to play them.

I think it's just a question of importing from data disks in general, it seems the data format is the most compact but also in terms of exporting off it's the most limited.

Open a folder to view your data CD. Somewhere from My Computer or the automatic run dialog. (dont close it until I say)

Now right-click the Start menu and select Explore.

In the new window that opened, navigate to where you want your music files to be (anywhere in your user folder except your Desktop).

You may even want to right-click >> New >> Create new folder and name it music.

Remember the first window I told you not to close? Click that window and go to Edit >> Select all.

Now all the files should be highlighted and you can drag them to your other window that is open. Then wait as the files will copy to your harddrive. After all files have finished copying, you can close the CD window.

For lots of the songs, it says it "cannot read from the source file or disk", the file type is MPEG Layer 3 audio, and the icon is an iTunes mp3 icon. I can still listen to the song off the CD... help?
