A hermit crab will pick lots of things for it's shell, even cans and bottles. A glass shell hermit crab is cool though.
that is just awesome! I want one.... But I wonder; eventually it won't look so good... won't it get covered in algae and bacteria, inside and out and just look gross?
as hermit crabs grow they need bigger shells, so you could just get them a new one when the old one gets dirty.
That's an amazing photo... I wonder if he's upset, thinking "you can't see me! you can't see me! damn..." or maybe he's just hanging out in there, like "ha! try and get me now!" I got a hermit crab from the mall once... I named him Pavel after Chekov from Star Trek. He died in a week, though. I suspect the mall vendor wasn't caring for them very well... He wasn't very big.
That’s cool I wonder if it stresses them out not being dark in there. I think hermit crabs just pick up discarded shells in the wild and change them out when the get to small or damaged. The glass seems like it might be heavier then a regular shell I wonder if it is hard for them to carry around.
