I recently came up with this theory on dreams while talking with my friend who has extreme insomnia but also has extremely vivid dreams, much like myself.

Me and my friend have both dreamt of the future numerous times and it has come to pass and we have also both had many dreams of past choices, but what would have been the consequences of choosing the opposite to what we chose.

Now its not down to diet because we both have completely different diets with me eating healthily and him eating.....not so healthy haha.

my theory is this...maybe in dreams you are actually viewing the future or an alternate reality. Maybe in your dream you leave your current consciousness and actually enter the consciousness of a future of alternate self, or even a past self in some cases.

That would explain why you can assess your dreams in this reality, but you dont know your dreaming in a dream, because while your viewing these future selves or alternate selfs, you think your awake.....because in the future of alternate reality, you are awake, so you have no need to assure yourself.

It sounds crazy and believe me, i've felt crazy many times, but i feel im close to the truth. There are still alot of variables to cover but your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    i dunno man

i think you feel like you can see the future because in your dreams you are every character in your dreams
like every different emotion that the different characters are feeling are how you feel at certain times and usually by examining the emotions of all the characters you can really understand how you are feeling and i dono maybe there is some of that future stuff in there

    i dunno just a thought

Ya iunno bout a time traveling subconscious.

But I think that maybe your brain can perhaps piece together things that have happened and whatnot and somehow know what you are going to do in the future from that- like our brain can predict our actions. But then you get into the free will shennanigans...blegh.

Your idea is valid, though, and makes sense in a crazy way. I guess you shouldn't worry about practicality when talking about dreams.

Maybe you're just psychic. That explains the precognitive element. As for the alternative realities, this might just be more precognition but dressed up in psychoanalytic symbols (dreams often reveal themselves in symbols).

BTW, what kind of dreams did you have that came true?

dreams of meeting people i havent met in years and knowing EXACTLY what they are going to say. then i had a dream about the earthquake which happened in england a couple of nights ago.

I mainly dream about certain people meeting me, sometimes new people, and them saying things to me and they always happen the way ive seen it.

Me and my friend have been trying to really study our own dreams, not in a sense of 'oh that symbolises this because i dreamt of a blue apple' or something but we are trying to study just how much is possible in a dream.

Last night infact in my dream i KNEW it was a dream and i didnt think you were supposed to be aware of your own dreams while your in them and i even chose what actions to take next rather then just watching it. It was a very odd experience and its definitly a first for me.

I said to my friend, and your probably gonna think im mental, but i said 'if you dream, try and pull me in and im gonna say a codeword to you' then now im awake im gonna say to him later 'did you dream of me?' and if he says yes i'll say the word which i said to him in my dream haha. it sounds crazy but....maybe if you BELIEVE that your actually in control of your dreams or believe that your dreams are more then just 'random images' thought up by your brain, maybe they really will be something more.

Not at all. If you're mental, then I'm certifiably insane ;)

Let us know if you ever get to do this experiment.

    Sounds like a good experiment!

I sometimes have precognitive dreams, little things and important ones too. However four nights ago i had a dream the like of which i've never had because i was able to verify everything about it the next day.
There's a woman at work, Jeanetta. We kinda like and are attracted to eachother and get on well. She's Slovakian and her English is ok but because of this ever so slight language barrier there's more gesturing, smiling and laughing. It's nice. She's asked me out but i've declined because she's a little distant and judgemental and moody... but i do find her lovely nonetheless. I'm hesitant about her.
    So the dream:
I was in Slovakia ... sitting around a kitchen table talking to Jeanettas' Mother and Brother whilst eating a meal of eggs on something with this sauce on it that i didn't like very mutch but ate anyway out of politeness. Talking to the mother was difficult and we exchanges few words because she didn't speak any English, and I, no Slovak/Czech, but i was able to talk to the Brother mutch easier ... it seemed we both play the guitar (i do) and we talked about guitar playing and got on well. He was about my age, around 40 and he had kinda wild dark hair with grey streaks. Everyone actually was really nice. Jeanetta was in the room but not participating in any conversation... i think she felt a bit nervous or shy.
The other parts of the dream showed me around the immediate vicinity, ... the room faced onto a street in the town which was on a hill, ... directly over the road was a small coffee stall and there was a stall in the street selling cold meats.
Then i was on a small bus travelling on a road up one of the surrounding mountains/hills ... a long drive uphill and all the mountains were covered with trees with brown leaves. END

So on waking i'm rather amazed about this dream. My sense and experience from previous dreaming tells me that alot of what i saw and experienced is gonna be real and all i have to do is ask Jeanetta. Later at work i told her about it. She was a little surprised and curious. I didn't have time to ask her about and verify everything but managed to find out that her Brother is 40, has wild dark hair with grey streaks (she said 'white'.. i think because she didn't know the word 'grey'...I said 'grey' and she nodded), yes he plays the guitar and he also speaks good english. They have two houses, one in 'the city' and one in a 'small town in the mountains', yes the house is on a hilly street and yes there's a coffee bar accross the street.

So what is this dream? ... a 'possible' future i think is certain. I would love to go and see with my own eyes ... Jeanetta has said maybe i would like to go there for a holiday sometime.
Could it be that i was astral travelling and talking to their astral counterparts? Or am i taking psychic information and building the dream out of that with my mind? However i'm sure that if i DO go to Slovakia for a holiday, i WILL eat those eggs, talk to her brother about guitars and take a bus up the mountain! The fact that talking to her mother was difficult but her brother easy (him speaking English), also suggests a 'real' future event perhaps.
Was i a 'future self'? I don't know ... it 'feels' more like a preview in hindsight. Within the dream thats where i was now, nowhere else .. thats where my conciousness was at at that moment, so that was my present, ... a 'future' present?. I spiritual councellor and psychic i had a few sessions with a few years ago suggested that i 'Ask my future self' for assistance in 'healing the past'. And i'm sure that healing the past is something we can all participate in now, but do we need to? I don't know but i do know that thinking about maybe difficult or painful past events and loving them and forgiving all involved IS a very healing thing to do. A future self seems reasonable and maybe just asking and directing a bit of intention is all thats needed.
I like the idea of 'the dreamtime' ... a dimension 'out of time' and encompassing all time. In my dreams, some are adventurous but seemingly meaningless and i'll notice little bits of it from both things that happened in the day and things that happen over the next day, maybe meet someone from the dream the next day.
Others are mutch more otherworldly ... a kind of mystical air about them and very symbolic ... meeting animals, maybe talking ones, or impressive enigmatic people who say strange things to you... guides, teachers and gods and goddesses.

Anyway those are some of my thoughts on dreaming and i'll just add that occasionally in my life i feel like i've done all this before ... does this also hint towards a future self or am i in some kind of stupid training simulator doing it all over and over until i realise i've been at it for ages, turn the damned thing off and go and do something more interesting and less timewasting! :)

yeah i have the same experiences.

but i dont really care one way or the other, because I could be dreaming right now, and I have no way of knowing.

Thats a good point. Dreams within dreams and one dreamer?

experiment done. i asked my friend if he had a dream with me in and he said a couple of nights past he did. So i told him to write down what the dream was about.

A couple of nights past i had a dream with him in too and when i met him he had the piece of paper in his hand and i said to him 'before i read it, let me tell you what i saw' and i said that we were at work putting these foam rockets out and they were too big for the building and then i said to him one sentence and that was 'F***ing rockets!' and on the bit of paper he'd wrote 'f***ing rockets' and he didnt remember why i said it haha

Was very weird but it established to me the belief that either A) one of us is very special B) we are both crazy or C) dreams are way more then just random images.

Last night i had a dream i was talkng to my friend jess and she said this sort of speech to me, i was woke up by a text message on my phone and it was jess, and her message said EXACTLY what she said to me in my dream.

coincidence? or am i going mental? haha

At least on a personal level its really shown me that dreams are something very special and so mysterious still.

they were like those pump action foam rockets. not sure if you have them in america but you get a pump, stick the rocket on top then pump it and it flies off. made of foam. for some reason we were stacking those and they were too tall for the building but somehow still fit haha.

you should hear my latest dream.

in the real world im a proffessional wrestler and basically i was wrestling in my dream with a wrestler i know and suddenly it turned into a boxing match and the crowd was huge like on rocky or something and barney gumble from the simpsons was my manager haha and i got KO'd but somehow that still made me win and the crowd went mental and for some reason i started crying hugging barney going 'WE FUCKING DID IT BARNEY!!! WE FUCKING DID IT!!!!' and i couldnt get my arms all the way around him. i woke up so happy haha. Was the single most craziest dream ever. It really felt so real. rarely do i actually FEEL emotions in my dreams. was really weird.

i liked the last dream! reli funny!

i have very random dreams 2, but i thought everyone had off the wall dreams! When iv spoken about mine, i was advised to keep a dream diary and write what happened, the feelings and what you noticed most. this seems to help me get at least a genral feeling out of them - instead of just poking a snake with a feather duster because he was rapped round an egg!
