I don't even think about the fact that i'm barefoot when I go into places barefoot, so I don't see why everyone else does. It's like some of my friends check to make sure i'm wearing shoes everytime we go anywhere. They think it's disgusting and i'm pretty sure I was embarrassing them. I don't want them to be embarrassed and disgusted by me, but fuck, I'm not going to change because people can't accept the fact that I don't like wearing shoes. I'm mostly just complaining. I'm sure some of you can relate.

I wouldn't worry about it. If they don't like or am embarrassed about, just tell them to get over themselves.
It's not your problem, it's theres.

Great post- I like your confident attitude. Yeah don't let them discourage you. There are plenty of other people out there who think going barefoot is awesome. Life is too short to keep your feet locked up in shoes. Keep 'em free, cool sistah.

Hey, it's your feet, you make the choices on how you dress, barefooting is fun, perfectly legal and healthy. If they wish not to participate, then it's their loss. I too like your way of thinking. With all of the pressing issues we face in our society, why should anyone care if you decide to leave the shoes behind, Right?

Remember, just say "NO" to shoes and socks.

    You go girl!

people are strange when it comes to feet. for some reason people think they should be hidden. it's like feet are seen as an intimate body part...or something!

in the summer i don't care for shoes. i keep a pair of sneakers in my car for a hike and i usually have flip flops accessible for stores that require shirts and shoes. hahaha though by the end of summer theres no need for the sneakers. hahaha

That's exactly what it seems like! Some people act like going barefoot in public is like going topless. And still, damn, if someone wants to go topless who am I to say that they shouldn't?

Going topless here where I am is legal. Unfortunately not too many women go topless, because lets be honest, the average person views toplessness and nudity as a whole as being sexual, not free.

People don't freak out when you wear flip flops and there is just as much foot showing as without any shoes at all. So on that theory, why should going barefoot be any different?

So your bare soles make contact with the ground.......so what?

    That's ironic.

People see the same amount of your foot with flip flops on, as they do barefoot...Go figure.

Yes, I can definitely relate to this, telephone. Thankfully, most of my friends are understanding and accepting of my barefootedness, but there are a few, however...

But dangit, if I still lived in Durham like I used to, I would so go around the Triangle barefoot with you, and we would be proud of our bare feet! =D

Dare I say this? I kinda think that going barefoot in public is one of the last taboos. It used to be long hair, the guys having an earring, the peircings all over, ect... so on so forth. Now those things hardly get a second look. Go barefoot in a store, or even for a barefoot walk on the street and it seems everyone looks. Its amazing.

I have tried to figure this out for a long time. It's true. Somehow flops make it all right.

Worst jerk was a Home Depot manager. That's a warehouse retail environment for those who don't know. Dangerous for bare feet, they say, since things can fall down and smash the feet. So flops are required, minimum. Keeps soles off the concrete floor. What does it do to protect the tops of your feet from those things that are always falling down to smash the feet? Yeah flops really help with that. But I dare not make an issue of it. Next thing there will be signs saying REAL SHOES, NO SANDALS, in this store. They'll get around to shorts, eventually.
