I don't like the term Hallucinogen, since pink elephants are more likely seen under the influence of depressants, but yes I prefer psychedelics, very much so.

    Pot is a...depressant.

    What is a stimulant?

    Like speed, cocaine, what else?

Really okay. I will change it to depressant. I have not done hallucinogens in years.

Marijuana is certainly not a depressant. It's active ingediant is THC, which mimics the neurotransmitter for contentment, thus there is no LD50, and every drug that does not have an effective lethal dose must be classified as a hallucinogen, including PCP.

so am i. drugs are typically put into five categories- stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, opiates, and cannabinoids.

stimulants speed up your brain and make you more alert and energetic. they are great when you need to get stuff done, or stay awake when you are exhausted, but they tend to be extremely addictive, disruptive to sleep patterns, and the comedown is a bitch.

depressants are pretty much the opposite. they have little practical purpose unless you have problems sleeping, but they are very fun. they are bad for productivity though, somewhat addictive, can leave you with a nasty hangover.

hallucinogens basically make your brain different for a while. they are great fun, and can give you new insights into pretty much anything. they also are not particularly addictive. they pretty much destroy productivity though, and can cause hidden psychological disorders to surface. also, the experience can be unpleasant at times and for some people.

opiates are so-named because they come from opium, or are a synthetic version of opium. they are basically painkillers. they are great if you have actual pain, and also can serve as a stress reliever. they tend to be extremely addictive though, with horrible comedowns.

cannabinoids come from cannibus- pot. it can do a lot of different things, so it could possibly share the good points of most of the other kinds. it tends to hurt productivity though, and while not addictive like heroin, it's hard to not smoke it.. and i'm quite certain my IQ has dropped since i started smoking regularly

thanks for that clarification, undies. with that I will name my fave hallucinogens, followed closely by cannabinoids and then stimulants. depressants are nice if you've got a 20 hour bus ride ahead of you, I haven't tried any opiates.

I would put pot in the depressive category.

Just for purposes of this thread.

Opiates are ok, becuause they numb. But doesn't alcohol numb too?

The reason I ask is because our choice of drugs (like that of porn) are a window to our subconscious.

I am afraid of hallucinogens, 'cause I'm a control freak.

People like me are more comfortable with depressants.

And the people who like stimulants are just crazy motherfuckers. That's in the book.

PCP does have a lethal dose and its effects are not like any of the "classic" psychedelics like lsd or mushrooms, most would classify pcp as a dissociative-anesthetic, the trippiness of it are just side-effects. It was used as an human/animal tranquilizer for years, but stopped due mostly to those and other side effects.

As to the o.t., I prefer hallucinogens (psychedelics). Depressants make me feel better but psychedelics can cure me.

    Hallucinogens. Mind-opening is fun.
Don't get me wrong, depressants are great, but they cloud the mind, not clear it.

At 80mg/kg it has no "effective" lethal dose, as with all hallucinogens. That is by definition why they are put in that class. However, the realized lethal dose will fall far, far short in most cases, because it agonizes the neurotransmitter noradrenalin, and so users may think they're superman, though their bodies will break just as easily.

I'm not sure what definition you are talking about. Many things can make a person hallucinate that are deadly, datura for instance. Beside that though, I don't think psychedelics are hallucinogens.

Read my eariler post and you will see I say the exact same thing. I was using the accepted term, yet flawed, medical term for pyschedelics.
