I have to protest against this defeatist attitude: the fact is that before the peace march, the Blair regime was planning to go to war without seeking the consent of Parliament, but after it, it became politically impossible for them to proceed without a debate in the House of Commons. Well over 100 Labour MPs voted against war and I'm sure our demonstration helped many of them find the courage of their convictions.
We voted in New Labour. We live with what ever the consequences of our choices. At the time, Tony Blair looked so young, back in 1997, when he came into power. I miss John Major and Maggie Thatcher. I miss that iron fist. I also miss that Iron Curtain. Now the Curtain is down. It is curtains for Britain. BUt regarding the war in Iraq. We were all decieved, but many still believed that Saddam Hussein was a direct threat to us. Perhaps, in ten years time, we will see our first glimpses of Nick Griffin. Or better yet, the return of Margerat Thatcher. It is possible to ressurect the living dead ex prime ministers. Even John Major was asked if he would stand again. For now, I don't really care much for the future of Britain. I have my heart and mind set on Paris. I wish only to help the French economy and become reborn. Of course, I will have to nail down more of my French. But yeh, we voted in New Labour, if this is the consequence, an invasion of Iraq, we must take some personal responsibility. We are still seeing those images. Yet we have the audacity to criticise other Countries. OUr country flamingoed up massively.
let say tomorrow all the shops were empty and none of the cars worked and things would stay that way and it was the governments fault do you think they would get re-elected . I think politics doesnt matter if their greens or nazis do you think they would get re-elected . our system works on oil so no matter what government you had if they could see they needed to control oil to get re-elected thats what they would do . lets say I said to you , you can stop the iraq war but you have to go live a middle ages lifestyle for the rest of your life , no telly no chocolates no wellies and out in the fields all day working like a serf would you do that do you think the majority would
if i might interject here? you miss thatcher and major? the 2 people who almost single handedly wiped out british engineering and manufacturing all together? we now only have the means to make half decent biscuits and pies thanks to those 2. My point being that this county would have been better served had neither of them got into power. We now have to import pretty much everything we used to manufacture, had we still our old manufacturing capabilitys the entire change over to enviro friendly power solutions. so my final thought being screw you and your love for the thatcher major regeme.
Final thoughts: Despite the negative press Iraq has been getting. I am pleased that the BBC have revealed certain sectors have some respite. Kids play in the park, kids go to school on their own. Genuinely an improvement. However, I think we need to take responsibility for what we have done. But the war will soon be over.....my arse!
how are we going to clear all the radioactive dust from iraq that these children are playing in and their children will play in for millions of years
i don't know if i'm responsible or guilty, but i sure am tired of it. i just don't really get my head around it. i mean, what happens now if we just yank all our people out. (i'm referring to americans, naturally) we blew that place to bits. we destabilized the whole region. it seems to me that we have a lot of reparations to make and physical repairs to do and yanking them outta there would be an even worse crime against humanity than we have already committed. i just don't know. WTF? i'm uncomfortable with hardliners on either side of this topic. it seems totally unreasonable to me.
My grandad fought in ww2 and now because of this war has become a pacifist. He works as the local British Legion Welfare Officer and sees daily the horrific affects this "war" has had on young people fighting in Iraq. He can see no reason why this has happened except for oil. When I first went marching and campaigning against going into Iraq we fell out quite badly as he was totally pro-war as he saw it as our patriotic duty... He said that the US had helped us out and therefore we should support them. He's since seen the reality of it all and has totally done a u-turn. They went to visit an ex-army man a few days ago who was recently sent home from iraq after being caught in a blast that now means (at 27 years old) he is horrifically disabled for the rest of his life and can't ever work again. He is stuggling to rebuild his life in a tiny flat on fuck all money.
These children are living in a post judgement day era. The bombs have fallen and now they play popular kids games in the broken shrapnel. When a kid stumbles, he cuts his knee. When he breathes in, he has sealed his doom. He will shortly die of cancer. When the women go out, they shed tears and become angry with America. I don't blame them. And I think that it is disgraceful that Britain followed America. I often look to the stars and wonder where we are, where this human race is going? Now I know. It is humanities' destiny to destroy themselves. In a million years time, the Earth will be home to a super race. A spin off from the defunct Humans of today. Perhaps in the future, will we find true peace. True alternatives to war. God Damn America.
A call for an enquiry into the Iraq invasion, was narrowly defeated in Commons. All I will say is: America will pay for its continuous arragance toward the World. In the new decade, America will yet be attacked once more. But this time, on an unprecidented scale.
