hey everyone, Im joining a gym soon, and was wondering how the swimming pool, steam room and sauna will affect my dreads? do you guys and girls think my dreads will be ok?
If you're going to be swimming a lot, I would suggest getting a swimcap so they don't get soaked everytime, and using a hairdryer to get them dry. Just to avoid any potential mold issues that might arise if they're wet too often. And yeah, if they get wet, rinse them well after to get chlorine out. Should be fine otherwise!
It sounds like such a hastle to go swimming in a pool with dreadlocks... Maybe finding other methods of exercise would be better for you. I would be scared to death having all of those pool chemicals in my hair- especially for any lengthy amount of time.
I swim in a pool with my dreads. Just make sure you give your hair an extra good rince out after to get rid of all the chlorine.
cool thanks everyone, I have been swimming and followed your advice and everything seems well, altho a few seem to be a little looser, but i think its just paranoia.... im just rinsing them really well as you say and making sure they dry before i go to sleep
Iv heard that saunas are really good for locks, aparently it steams out all the crap inside worth a go. Id rinse those locks out good and proper after the swimming pool though, perhaps a deep clean
as for saunas...i found that a sauna/steam room really loosened my dreads, but they were fairly young then. if they're mature enough to cope with washing they should be alright.
yeah i was thinking of using the deep clean concoction afterwards, but im going to the gym about 4 or 5 times a week and swimming every time.... and my hair seems to be getting even looser , I just keep telling myself it will be fine!....
go swim in the ocean once a month or so.. i havent swam in a pool in many many years but when up in the mountains id be in the river or stream every day if it went over 80 and never had a problem.. try to swim in more natural water more often then chemicaly treatted
