i got my tarot cards read for the first time a few days ago, and i was pretty skeptical about it at first, but i must say i was completely blown away. i know that the woman that did it has some kind of special gift, but even when i was playing around with them and reading them for other people, it seemed to almost always make sense. does anyone have any real experience with tarot cards? i plan on getting myself a deck within the next few days. i am just kind of amazed by them. how does something that is mass produced predict the future? i wish someone could explain it to me other than "it doesn't, it's just in your head" or "it just does, just go with it" my mom used to read tarot cards back in the day but she doesn't like to mess with that stuff anymore, and i know she is very intuitive, and i believe i am, too, i just would like to concentrate on it and be able to sharpen my skills up a little bit. i was just wondering if its actually in the cards, or in the person reading the cards? or what?
i'd say the cards are fun to look at . they make a language , which is , they give you a way to talk about stuff . pictures can show relationships of feeling . then opening up feelings can get you some knowledge . but things can get weirdly neurotic if you maybe get insisting to know some impossible thing . what's impossible to know ? that's your job to think about it . it's to be a philosopher of feelings . i'd sometimes say : the more you love the more you can know . the coolest experience i ever had was with The LIving Tarot Theatre . i volunteered out of the audience to have a reading . first i say what i want to know about . then i get three cards . one by one , the cards get acted out on stage by the troupe . act l , act ll , act lll . so in this way the meaning is in motion , moving toward your understanding . also , musicians are there too giving even more motion , more meaning . ultimately , the understanding was all mine . it still is , i mean for the third card of that question , because it's been a very long good question .
I would say it's in both and in everything. It's in the state of the universe at the moment the cards are shuffled. It's the same with the I Ching or any other oracle. The state of the universe at that moment is reflected in you, in the cards, in the card reader, in the flight of birds and the running of caribou. You could read the future in the pattern of - tea leaves! Or in the path of a snail, if you study snails...or in the pattern of birds' singing, or waves crashing on the beach. At least, that's what I think.
I look at the cards as a conduit for a higher power to communicate and tell me what I am meant to pass along to whomever I'm reading for. Tarot cards are my favorite form of divination.... and I also love talking about them. I read intuitively for the most part, but I have a very good grasp on the fundamentals of the cards. One thing I would suggest, read the book, "A Magical Course in Tarot" by Michelle Morgan before you start. It'll make things so much easier, and the book is very entertaining and easy to follow.

I have used tarot cards, and have used them ever since I was 10. It's mostly in you at the beginner till you start using the cards more, if you have got the book, and your looking at all the meanings go with the one yours eyes are drawn to first, just skim it. You might miss a few to begin with as you get better, but always keep a journal of your readings, their name and what the card layout was, what each card was. It will help you tremdousouly. Make sure and only have that person's face in your mind. Just concentrate on what they look like. Don't take your attention off them.
Everytime I looked for meanings out of the book, I swear they'd change depending on the reading, situation, and person.
Thank you, phoenix - I'll need to set up my computer for that - I lost msn when my hard drive crashed a few months ago.
