best bass guitar player

i got into an argument at work yesterday over this. i said it was flea from the chili peppers and this other dude says its sublime. what do yall think? who is the greatest bass player of all time?

Depends. The guy from Mudvayne is as competent as Flea, and does this stuff while running and jumping round the stage like a mong. Squarepusher (Thomas Jenkinson) is pretty good too, but then he's good at everything.

Generally, as a rock fan, I look for (and am quite lucky to find) a bassist who can stand up and play, preferably at the same time. A guy related a story about a rehearsal session where the bassist came up to him complaining that the drummer had detuned one of his strings and wouldn't tell him which one.
