My bf and I have saved up a few thousand bucks and we really want to high tail it out of Chicago and get a cheap apartment and whatever crappy jobs we can get. We were thinkin Cali, but we don't know where to look. Anybody know of a good town with good vibes that we can get a studio or something for around $600/mo?

Thanks in advance for any clues that might help us with our exodus

Yeah, here in Chico you can get 1br apts for $600, I have a huge 2 bedroom house w/ full basement for $750

My ex got a 1 br recently for $550

This is a great town, it is very progressive, has a nice co op and many other grest stores

plus you can get free school at community colleges in Cali after 1 year of residency, then you can get like $3000 grant money per semester too

and not to forget that california passed prop 215 and sb420, so if you have a qualifying medical condition you can get your medical and grow your own herb!

    Hope this helps you,
    Be well~~

Just some advice...California ain't cheap. If you come to Southern California, I would recommend the Inland Empire (cities include: Riverside, San Bernardino, Redlands, Rialto, Colton, Fontana, Corona, Temecula, Moreno Valley, and more) - I say this only because it's relatively cheap by California standards-- a bedroom community-- there aren't many jobs here, so many people commute to and from LA or the OC (Orange County) for work, which equals anywhere from 2-4hrs of driving daily. If you don't mind the driving aspect of it, then you'll probably like it here.

Stay away from LA. An overcrowded expensive polluted armpit.
Stay away from SF bay area, unless you got $1200/mth for 1bd apt.

IMO, San Diego is best, though expensive. The weather is great
year round. There is no noticable air pollution. Its beautiful.
There are some pockets of affordability; Clairemont, San Marcos, Vista. Clairemont has best access to area. You can get a 1bd apt. there for $900/mth.
