I take the Bible as literal indisputable fact. However, I was mulling over some things last night... The Bible says homosexuality is wrong, and I'm entitled to believe that. So many people call christianity a religion of hatred because of that... Some people choose to hate on gays because the Bible says it's wrong... Well, my brothers and sisters in humankind... Jesus, he preached love. God himself loved the world and all the people in it. It's all in the way people interpret the word, not the word itself. It may be wrong, but that doesn't mean that hating on it is right. I think it's wrong, but I respect my gay brothers and lesbian sisters. If that's who they are, fine. If that's just their choice, fine. God loved the world, and Jesus preached love. People who say christianity is hateful are wrong... It's the people, not the whole religion, man. I just wish more people would realize that... I wish more Christians would realize what I realized... Jesus had it right, man. Peace, love, faith, and righteousness. People gotta realize, the Bible promises, in the words of Jesus himself, all who believe in Him will be forgiven. I'm about to start smoking pot. If that's wrong, he'll forgive me for it. If being gay is wrong, he'll forgive them for it. Forgiveness... That's how I learned tolerance... If somebody's a Christian, why worry about what they do? Yeah, if it's dangerous and could kill them, yes try to get them to stop. Otherwise, let them be as long as it doesn't hurt anybody. They're forgiven. wow only post i read in here and 1 of the few christians who i felt got it... god gave that herb so pass it to me brother here i'll pass ya some of mine
Not saying I agree or disagree, but if all are forgiven, no matter what--what happens to metaethics? What is my incentive for not going out and only thinking of myself if I am forgiven always?
Ever been caught by your mom doing something that reeeeeeeeeeally pissed her off, then she yells at you for two hours, scowls at you for days, and then forgives you for what you did? That's kinda it. Most christians try their best to not go out and only think of themselves, because of what the Bible says. They may wind up doing it anyway and not even realizing it (see it every day) but at least they try hard. Sometimes, they just can't see that they're not coming through all the way. The Bible says that all who believe in Christ as their savior will be forgiven of their sins, but it doesn't say that there won't be a rebuke. Looking into the book of Revelation, it states that all men will be judged in the end before the white throne. The works and doings of every man, woman, and child will be tried by fire, in front of the masses. So everybody will know what everybody did or didn't do, and as is the motivator with many Christians (myself included) God will know. Jesus will know. soaringeagle: My friend has a zippo with a Cannabis leaf and this quote printed on it: "Man made alcohol, God made cannabis. Who do you trust?" Now, if only more Christian people will learn and understand this... I think I'm gonna discuss this with my pastor... He's one of the wisest men I've ever talked to, and I'm sure he'll understand better than most Christians do. I'm sure he'll find my belief interesting.
No, I understand the concept that all people are forgiven, even thoguh god may not like it for a while, he will eventually be like "We're cool". But my question is, what happens to the murderers? What is there to stop me from murdering now that I KNOW I will be ok. Punishment on Earth is only temporal, and if I get caught I will go to heaven, right--cause I am forgiven.
Morals. Instinct. I've never talked to anybody in my entire life that thought killing somebody for no reason was okay. Yeah, I'll admit, if I was in a life-or-death kill or be killed situation, I could do it. But murder? No. I've never met anybody who thought that murder was okay. That's the morals part. Instinct. There's just something about people, you know inside that randomly taking a life for no reason or for selfish reasons just isn't right. You just know you shouldn't do it. Then there's the fact that if you murder somebody, you're going to spend the rest of your life in "federal pound-your-ass prison" being assraped by a 300 pound bunk jockey who's rap sheet makes yours look saintlike.
Sorry, when I was writing my last reply, I meant to throw it in there that the murderer commits suicide after going to jail so the finite punishment on earth doesn't really matter. My point with talking about the murderer isn't that it is right or wrong (it is obviously wrong), but your point is that it doesn't matter what we do because god always forgives us. So my point is, if god always forgives us, what motivation is there for us to not do just what we want without regard to other people and then if we get stopped to just kill ourselves and end out on top in heaven because God forgived us...
why does it matter what we do if god already forgives us? my answer is, i want to be obedient to god. i am so greatful and thankful that i am already forgiven that a way to show my gratitude and appreciation for this gift of forgiveness is through my obedience. because i want to be obedient doesn't mean i always am .... in fact, i fall way short.
