hi i'm steve. i thought i'd start a new post. my old one floating around somewhere, but i can't find it! so here is my journey so far. there about 8 months old now and i haven't looked at old photos for ages. i am amazed at how well they are coming along and they are really tightening up loads. am very happy with them. i even get complimented on them now!

this is my second set. i never had the old ones for that long so never reached this stage.
i use good old dr bronners, wash it once a week, maybe a bit more often, and wax occassionally (like once a month). but alot less these days. i think sometimes i just wanna try it again and always regret it!! also while i'm waffling, lock peppa from dreadhead hq is a waste of money. don't buy it!

    before!

in the 5th pic down i'd just washed them so they look a bit gunky and in the one above they'd been drying in a towel which is why they stick out! i don't wax now as it feels yucky and makes my pillow gross. i'm not against the stuff. i uses to use it occassionally. i've never known why, but i did. anyhow i think there ok now.

i suggest against wax...i am taking my dreads out now, and there are hunks of wax which are now brown in the middle of some of the dreads. its really gross....you can't see whats going on in there :)

    they are lookin good though!!
lovin the beads, and how thick they are...looks nice

i had this one dread that was twisty like that, except it alternated and made a cool pattern. wish i had taken a photo before i combed it out.

yeah. the whole wax thing. i know now i shouldn't have...but i did. ho hum. anyways, dreadhead said to use it, and they must be right :p

they are about 8-10mm mostly, but obviously change in shape and size quite a bit. i like my beads, but i keep losing them!! unlike some, my beads have no meaning behind them. i just like them and cost pennies so when they fall out i don't really mind. i bought a toe ring today for my hair too. :)

ps. i think your mad! i couldn't imagine combing mine out now after 7 months! having siad that i bet the inside of mine are a bit gross!! :)

i'm against wax because i waxed mine once when i first made them and they were always sticky and took all day to dry and make my pillow sticky also. dreadheadhq and knotty boy say to use wax in hopes that you will buy theirs. it's completely unneccesary. but thats just me. if someone wants to use it then it's there decision. they look great by the way

    how do they smell?
    they look kinda heavily waxed
ive seen wirse yea (not sayin they look bad at all as u can tell ppl think they look good, just seems they have a sticky look ..stiff, greyish gunk in em..sorta unevenly..and with lil chunky spots
i dont think peaceitout had to take hers out (i was heartbroken to see that) but i think shes really glad she did after seeing what was inside
(maple if u havent finnished that last thick dread please try takin some up close and personal pics of the gunky sticky mess)

quintin..id seriusluy suggesst some extreme effort into getting all the wax out u can you probly wont have to take the dreads out but ewhen u see what u wash out u might change your mind

but with enough effort ya might be able to get enough out to avoid real problems

they do look like they locked enough to not come apart from grettin the gunk out so just try meltin out as much as u can and scrub like crazy
they'll look feel and smell a million times better after u do

i hope that didnt make it seem like they look bad at all
im just sayin the wax problem..is visible

thanks for the repy folks. wish i'd never said i'd used wax now! i feel a bit shot down :p

in photo of 6mths i had just washed my hair so it was wet, not gunky. the ones before did have wax in.

i have not used wax for 3 months now and wash regularly with bronners, go in the sea and have done deep clean concoction (sp?) about 3 times. i'm pretty sure any wax that may ever come out has come out now.

they don't smell bad, they just smell of me and lavender :p

they are kinda uneven too, but i thought thats just the way dreads are...

maybe its just the pics, but i'm pretty sure there is no/not much wax left. they don't feel gunky, smell fine and are locked up but still soft f that makes sense. there not rock hard!

just asked the missus to take a look and she says she can't see anything suspicious. i think its just the way the photos have come out tbh

All your dreads are great. Mine are coming up to about 6 months now!
Iv waxed them once and completely regretted it. soaringeagle is right, it does make your dreads very gunky and sticky! Its horrible.
I'd let your dreads do what they want because.. hey there dreads!
Totally natural is worth it in the end.

oh wasnt shootin ya down they look great..
i love the zig zaggy 1 especialy

at the 1 hour mark didnt look like much wax really, but then seemed to be more thru the 1st 6 months and does look like u got a good bit out the past 2 months

between 4 and 6 looks like u stopped fussin with em and started lettin em do theyre thing and gettin em clean
and 6 to 8 started tightening up

ther pic might be the light that made it look lil gunky ive seen that happen a few times when the flash just makes it look thaty way..
oh..btw..that deep clense stuff..thats completely amazing for every time use even..
