My partner and I will be stopping over in Singapore for a few days enroute to Japan sometime between early march and early may. Any suggestions for ANYTHING would be appraciated. Good places to stay, safety precautians, places to see etc. Many thanks!
I like Singapore. Sure it's like a big shopping mall with the rat race and all, but I always had a blast when I was there. I always stayed at the Hotel Negara off of Orchard. Great location and a really nice hotel, but not exactly budget accomodations. I was always working so my room was paid. My favorite night spot is the Anywhere Pub on Tanglin Rd off of Orchard Rd. It's upstairs in the Tanglin shopping center. They have a great house band with the cutest little asian cross dresser doing vocals. There's a few Irish Pubs in the same general area of Orchard as well if a draught Guinness is what you need. For food try the Holland Village. Whatever type of food you want can be found there. The Boat Quay is good for pubs and food as well. Singapore is a safe and clean city. You should have no trouble there.
Thanks so much. Looking forward to spending a few days there. I've heard its safe and clean which will be good as I'm a very inexperienced traveller (Have only ever been to Australia so far).
Hi, from a Singaporean here...well, if you're just stopping over i suppose that would be a good idea. But if you want to really experience what singapore is like you have to get to the suburban areas. Good local food can rarely be found in air-conditioned places D: . would be more than happy to give reccomendations for anything other than pubs or clubs (im not old enough yet D if anyone needs them. ps. sometimes, i think its TOO safe, not to mention orderly..my life is reeallly boring ><
Singapore can be nice, but your have to step away from Orchard Road to find the lovely places and good food. Go outside, walk around. Take the subway and just get out at some random point. I enjoyed doing that. Visit Orchid Park, it's a nice, relaxing walk. And maybe take a trip to Johor Bahru in Malaysia.
Food: Try Newton Circus, and get some chili crab and/or Stingray! From Orchard Road, it's less than a S$10 cab ride. It's a big open-seating food court with a LOT of different places to eat. Don't let the "touts" seat you - it's open seating. just tell them you need to look around first. They can be a little pushy, since they get paid to seat you by the restaurant that pays them.
If you are in Singapore before April 26, you must go to the Esplanade Theater and see We Will Rock You. It's a musical using Queen music starring MiG Ayesa from Rockstar. The Esplanade Theater is amazing, and you can probably meet the stars after the show at the merchandise stall or the stage door. Just be prepared for being rocked out of your seats.
