I'm five months pregnant and don't have much of a bump. How safe is it to sleep on my stomach?

I am not a doctor, but I slept on my stomach for a good deal of my first pregnancy, mainly because I couldn't get comfortable any other way. My daughter came out beautifully, she was one of my easiest births, I have had four. I slept on my stomach for at least five or six months each time. I also have a friend who slept on her stomach for at least eight months of her pregnancy and I don't see any ill effects in her son's health. If you are really concerned, you could ask your doctor, but from personal experience I haven't seen any problems associated with it.

Congratulations on becoming a mommy, and good luck finding a comfortable position to sleep in. It can be rough, so, long answer short, I would sleep however you are comfortable sleeping. :) Sorry that was so long winded....

I also slept on my stomach until it began to feel uncomfortable, with both pregnancies. I think it was until about 6 months. At that point, it was uncomfortable putting anything against my tummy, so I had to find a different way to sleep. They say that sleeping on your left side is best. With my daughter, by the end, I could not get comfortable in any position...I think it was because she was breached.

    Congrats!

You really shouldn't sleep on your stomach because it can put too much pressure on the baby. You should be sleeping on your left side because it will give the baby more nutrients and you will have a healthier pregnancy. :)

I've also heard that sleeping on your left side is better because the blood flows better, but I have also heard that sleeping on your stomach is harmless....considering you aren't like 400 pounds or something..That baby is more protected in there than you might think :)

well amneotic (sp?) fluid is there to protect your child...i do not think there would be a misscarriage because you slept on your stomach, but it is safer to sleep on your left side. If you cannot get cumfy, get one of those pregnancy pillows, they are amazingly comfortable. Sleeping on your back is fine too, but i understand some people cannot sleep like that (i personally can't)

I slept on my stomach until my belly would no longer allow me. Alexis is healthy and huge, so it didn't hurt her.

    Another stomach sleeper here.

I did it until around 5 months or so. I got huge fast though. Doc said it was alright so it didn't really worry me.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with sleeping on your belly at any point, if it's comfortable for you do it. It will not harm your baby.

sleeping on your back is a bad idea, it constricts major blood vessals and the baby could end up laying on top of your sciatic nerve, this is very painful.
