Hi everyone! I have been having this crazy breathing problem for about 2 1/2 weeks now... The first day, I couldn't breathe (it felt like a small child was sitting on my chest) & I had a fever. The fever went away but the breathing issue is still there. I don't feel sick, & I'm not coughing. Also, I don't have any stuff in my lungs, so it's not an issue like that. It just feels like I can't fill up my chest all the way. This goes on throughout the day except when I get up in the morning, but as soon as I'm done showering it's already begun. I have had a couple of anxiety attacks during this time, due to work & some personal stuff, but I haven't been feeling anxious the whole time this has been going on, so I don't really know if this is a stress-related thing or not. Maybe some underlying, sub-concious stress or something like that?? Also, I have a lavender spray (just water, witch hazel, lavender e.o.), & although I've been using it every day for months, I'm wondering if I'm having a reaction to it? The only reason I think that's possible is because when I spray the stuff, it's even harder to breathe than before. I feel tired & lightheaded all the time because I'm not getting enough oxygen. What do you all think? Is it just stress? What's a good way to remedy this? Any herbal treatments, teas, or what have you that can help open up airways? Thanks in advance, & I'm sorry it's such a long post. Peace & Love, Moon Beam
Moonbeam, it may be all those things in combination. It's good to listen to your instincts, but I would also consider asthma. I got diagnosed accidentally...
I have anxiety too. Here's a trick to try: Don't think about breathing. I've always had this problem where if I think about breathing, I can't. Or at least I feel like I can't. Then, I hyperventilate to make up for it and feel REALLY weird. It could just be stress. Or you might have that virus that's going around, but I have no idea how it would have made it to Colorado in that short amount of time. :tongue: If relaxation techniques and such don't work, you might try going to the doc. Obviously, if it gets any worse, you'll need to go to the doc immediately anyway. If it's allergies or something annoying, my heart goes out to you. I was on allergy meds for the better part of my life and it's just so irritating taking pills every day. I've spent a lot of time looking for alternatives, but thankfully, I seem to be growing out of the stupid allergies anyway... Funnily enough, my allergies disappeared when I cut dairy products from my diet. Couldn't keep it up, though. But I'm done rambling... Hopefully you'll find something of use in here. 0_o;
thanks all, i appreciate it. i did feel better last night (friday night, no work in the morning), so it is likely that it's stress. that was the first time it's gone away. also, i drank some Breathe Easy tea yesterday afternoon, which seemed to calm it down a bit. & firefly, don't know what's going on in new york, but in colorado a couple of people have died from the flu recently. not good. anyway, thanks again!
Eep! Well, we had the flu for about a week here, but it seems after that, there was this weird mystery virus that had a lot of patients in the emergency room to get their lungs drained. Pretty gross. Don't think there were any fatalities, though.
Sounds like stress and tension, a lot of times when people are stressed it is hard to get out of short breathing patterns. One thing that works for a lot of people is to stretch out your chest cavity, your cheat cavity gets tight and smaller when you breath shallow and small and it is hard to change your breathing pattern when it is stuck small. Doorway stretches work well on chest cavities, you stand in a door way, put both hands on the edge of the door way about 10:00 and 2:00 and lean into the door way (while breathing deep). You can move your hands up and down and it will stretch out different parts of you chest cavity. Also the tea you were talking about tea is great for relaxation especially tea with a candle.
I had a virus recently, a cold, and couldn't breathe properly. It happens with some viruses, it could be related to having asthma.
