Constant carried over from transformation/past lives.

Consciousness always has been, and always will be constant.

If there is one thing certain in this Universe, this is it.

conciousness is chemical/electrical signals in the brain that let you percieve the world around you and carry out basic thought processes.

i dont get what you mean...

I believe this is mostly true. However we cease to exist in 'reality' if humans cease to be also. Since humans are the only creatures with a concept of 'reality' if every human being were to be killed we (as awareness) would have nowhere to manifest, thus 'reality' as we know it would cease to be.

Hello by the way, I'm new here !

exactly. conciousness is energy which is gained through food and digestion. throughout your life it escapes in heat loss/circulation. when you die it is broken down into molecules with the energy to feed other systems.

I was referring to the 'self awareness' aspect of consciousness. Humans being the most 'self aware' of all creatures, indeed that's what seperates humanity from other animals. Without self awareness ( which is us) humans would just be like other animals, and 'reality' ( a human concept) would cease to be. This doesn't mean that the world would dissapear, but it does mean humanity's vision and understanding of 'Earth' would not be. If humans were to be extinct, consciousness would still exist, but it would manifest into some other body and possibly be even more limited than it currently is (that is if we are to believe that humans are the pinnacle of evolution) and 'Reality' would be gone too.

I might be a little hard to understand, so I apologise if I am. Everyone I know says I think too much, and sometimes I don't feel sane at all. My body is only 19 but I feel much, much older .

ya man i think about this shit waaaaayy too much. it is true humans are just really smart animals and in the broad scope of the entirity of the universe and time, conciousness and self awareness must have been and will be even if humans are gone.

it is inevitable that the planet will be gone but i think humans are a species smart enough that we could go on and evolve for billions of years. it is far out but we do have the ability to migrate to other planets or create our own self sustaining "death star" type world.

Consciousness interprets everything around itself. What it interprets around itself may not be the true thing that is being witnessed and all understanding of it would be imperfect. When it observes its own consciousness, it observes chemicals and whatnot, but what we observe may not be the thing itself.

Consciousness is what is left of you despite the lack of knowledge and knowing of what's around it through interpretation of senses and perceptions. Consciousness is the spark that makes up our being and may not extinguished, only apparently so, through the witnessing of perceptions, and through interpreting such perceptions.

Hello :) thank you for welcoming me!

Consciousness is regarded to comprise qualities such as subjectivity, self-awareness, sentience, and the ability to perceive the relationship between oneself and one's environment.

That's wikipedia's version of events so to speak.

Here is just something I posted in another thread ( about what God is) a couple of minutes ago.

    I believe that God can be used to describe the consciousness/awareness that resides inside the human body, that being us. We are the awareness inside the head of the body, not the body or the personality, both of which are created by human reproduction and upbringing. We are consciousness, and from us all of 'reality' is created, thus , we would be what religious people constitute as God;

I am not John Doe, John Doe is the name given to the body which I reside in at birth. I am not the personality and Identity that John Doe has assumed. I am the consciousness that resides inside the head of the body,I am the awareness of existing, for I am existence itself. Now that John Doe has become aware of this , he has stripped away his identity, and has become one with the stream of consciousness that we all are, he has become a part of super consciousness himself. Fear, constraints and even death itself no longer exist, because they are simply illusions.

kaminoishiki's view is pretty much how I see it as well. It seems like more and more people are coming to this same type of understanding.

well i'm not convinced there is anything certain, even this universe itself. my observation is consistant with yours though, that the only thing that travells well between subsiquent lives is true self which is consciousness which is a matter of preferences and inclinations rather then memories which are transient data phenomina.

there's no indication, one way or the other, as to whether there is a contiguousness of consciousness between them however.

i want there to be. i like the idea. i'd like to visit some kind of r&r bardo between lives. i sort of half way feel that there is, that i've been in one. even a bit about what one might be like. but then i have to question myself because i have no idea how it would be possible to know this.

Im torn between science and religion/faith (or whatever you want to call your line of thought). my understanding of a god/existence/reincarnation is very similar to what you posted. but recently i have been leaning towards the viewpoint that we really are nothing. its kind of depressing and freeing in ways.

the earth is just a smaller than miniscule rock in the infinity of spacetime. somehow humans evolved out of carbon, oxygen, hydrogen etc. somehow we became smarter than any other animals and put too much meaning into existance and the meaning of life.

so pretty much nothing matters except giving your body the pleasure receptors it craves. listen to sounds, have sex, eat good food, and love, thats about all thier is.

Smaller than minuscule rock, yet we profess that we have a very good understanding of it through our disciplines, but the universe needs not to conform to our yips and yaps.

Nothing wrong with the pursuit of pleasure, but to say that is all there is, is to avoid much evidence that is witnessed in our day to day lives. Many people don't live for pleasure alone. Although, it may be pleasurable to find meaning and purpose in your life, much of it is very difficult, but worth it in the end. I really recommend giving, "Man's Search for Meaning" and "Man's Search for Ultimate Meaning", both written by Viktor Frankl, a read. You will be moved by the thoughts. I know that I have.

Goodness is apparent within the universe, and it seems like it goes by this at its very core. Somehow our universe was fine-tuned in such a way as to allow a universe to even form to begin with, and that alone is beautifully mysterious, and professing knowledge of it and to state, "that's all there is", is a huge leap of faith.

Perhaps our consciousness is so powerful as to allow ourselves to question the significance of our very being, even if it lacks foresight to do so.

It's a respected field of thought in science to look deeper into the possibility that we were created by something higher. This isn't kookiness, either.

I have become aware of my true self, the self that resides inside the human body. I am not the body that I am in , I'm more of the pilot. I can control the identity of the body I am ,and the actions the body takes. I am only restricted by certain laws of science whilst I exist here on earth. I'm no longer restricted to the person I was born as at birth, because that identity is simply an illusion. I am truly nameless, the great consciousness that we all are, most are just unaware of this. I have no fear of death, because death is just a physical state of change that the body I reside in goes through. I was never born, I simply always have been. The body which I reside in was born 19 years ago, there are no memories of this birth because I was not present inside the body at this time because I simply have alwasy existed.I am the self awareness inside the head. The body which I reside in is completely random because life is random. We simply inhabit the being which limits us the least, and that is humanity, the most evolved of all animals. All of human reality stems from us, for we are consciousness itself. Since I am inside a human body I am able to assume any identity I wish, I can do whatever I want. I believe morality is ingrained into humanity naturally. The role of humanity is to procreate, as with any other animals. Therefore murder is counter - productive and so morally wrong. I believe my aim, should I wish to choose one, is to preserve mankind and help it evolve even further. For without mankind, human reality would not exist, and so we would manifest into something even more limiting to us, and thus reality would become something completely different. When the body which I am in dies a physical death, I will simply become the self awareness of another human being, for we are all the same thing.

My body has become a canvas, and I now have the potential to paint whatever I choose, without human limitation.

I came to this conclusion not through religion, as religion is a man made concept. I came to this conclusion through pure logic and spirituality. I thought about my self as a person a lot, I became interested in religion, and ultimately rejected it,and then began to look deeper inside myself. And realised that I am not the body, or the brain, I am the sum of all of it's parts, the consciousness that resides inside.

"I came to this conclusion not through religion, as religion is a man made concept. I came to this conclusion through pure logic and spirituality."

It is common belief that religious beliefs are arrived at unintelligently. The same way you arrived at your ideas, is the same way many religions have arrived at it. We all have the natural ability to find truths by deep thinking about matters (meditation). It is also believed that people thousands of years ago were ignorant and 'stupid', but that couldn't be further from the truth. It is no wonder that people within the Kaballah have arrived at the conclusion of a multi-verse. They just don't name it as such. It is also no wonder that Hindus have arrived at the idea of the universe eventually fading away and the eventual birth of another. Science, although, absolutely a good pursuit, can be far too closed-minded in thought. There is a constant need to 'explain away' a creator, rather than to simply acknowledge the possibility. After all, science is the pursuit of the truth, not the preconceived notions of such. With the war going on amongst creationists and scientists, one has to step back and wonder why there is a war in the first place. Rather than to just simply try to work together, we decide to separate ourselves, and hurt our pursuits in the process. After all, there are no 'sides' to truth searching, there should only be one 'side'.

It is a fact that religions sprung up through deep thought, and deep thought can bring us to certain truths, no matter what you may name your discipline. All disciplines observe, use logic, and questions everything. This is how we arrive at the truth. It is understandable why people would mock religious thought, especially when the mocker doesn't understand what it is that he mocks. The mocker, understandably, doesn't comprehend the complexity of thought behind religious ideas.

It is no wonder that people in the modern era are coming to the same conclusions that people thousands of years ago have arrived at. These religions just care to explain the same things slightly differently, but the core of it is still there.

Five millenia later, and we come to the same conclusions as our ancestors. Living the same lives, using the same brains, but the only difference is the advancement of technology.

This is very true :) I was surprised with myself that I had came up with answers by looking inside the body, rather than 'to the heavens' for answers. In truth I even believed at one point that I had sowed the seeds of a new religion, or ideology within myself. I felt at times like I was losing my sanity. However, now that I have come to awaken there is so much I want to experience and learn about, I feel that I now have true freedom and my potential to exist as a fulfilled human being has increased to no end.
