Hey all - Please Read This. Copied it over from a juggling forum: Hi The new owners of Covent Garden are bringing in radical changes to reduce the number of performances on their property. These changes are being put in place without any consultation and given with only 17 days notice. In the North Hall - they have decided to cut the length of the shows by a quarter and bring in 30min gaps between each performance. Similar reductions are being introduced for courtyard used by the classical musicans. This will make it much harder for all of Covent Garden's street performers to survive and make it much less likely any new talent will emerge from one of the worlds most famous street performing pitches. Please sign these petitions, and forward them to everyone on your address book. Please tick the box on the petition page to allow the authors of the petition to have your e-mail address, so we can inform you in a few days of where to send a complaint to the Covent Garden Managment. My violin man sent me a shirt with 'save covent garden street performers' and I wear it everywhere at the moment. They are what makes covent garden so special, and if you have heard and seen the (us) violinists you would stamp your feet, shake your fists and not let them stop it!
ah man this is annoying. this is essentially a reduction in the ability for the music community to survive, boo.
This will have a negative impact on Covent Gardens. Some of the performers are genuinely World Class. Yet again, local councils are trying to spoil it all. I do enjoy going to Covent Garden in the Summer and listening to South American pan pipe performers. I also like the statues.
I'm very sad to hear this! As a NYC subway performer I know what a vibrant, diverse and rich cultural life we contribute to any metropolis. I was hoping to perform there soon as well. I hope they can talk sense into the new owners! The Saw Lady. http://SawLady.com/blog
That is bad news.i suppose,if it got on a t.v debate programme, some clown from the london mayors office would throw in the word: terrorist,as a way of justifying it all.
They should come to Brighton, you can perform anywhere you like here without a licence, and who knows you might be spotted by some local celeb like Nick Cave or Simon Fanshawe.
