finally did my dreads! i was up sunday night till 6 in morning backcombing my hair, took forever but very worth it. before... all sectioned off... didnt get any pics right after cause i fell right to sleep after finishing but heres waking up the morning after, morning dread hair haha... and today (3 days later) now as you can see theyre starting to fall apart a bit, and definitely dont look as good as they did at first. should i be worried about this, i dont want them to come undone completely, i spent so much time on them. or as time goes on will they clump back up and start dreading? i havnt washed them yet either, im too scared to even get them too wet so i just keep my hair out of the shower should i be doing maitnence on them to get them back like they were, like more backcombing? just not sure where i go from here now
Dreadlocks never give instant results. What you have done is taken the first step to attaining locks. In all honesty, they will almost definately all fall out, you'll have loose hair everywhere, and like a lot of people, you'll wonder what you did wrong, when really you've done nothing wrong. Your hair will do its own thing. Thats whats dreadlocks do, whether started "naturally" (whatever the valid definition of that currently is...) or by backcombing. So try not to treat your hours of backcombing as the end result, because it's most definatley not, even though you may feel like it is! You can do as little or as much maintenance as you desire. I personally wouldn't recommend re-backcombing, because your hair is just going to do its own thing anyway, and you could end up doing more harm than good by damaging your hair. Don't be frightened of washing them! It helps them tighten over time. Your hair looks great, chill out, and enjoy watching them change
Thanks! I figured the next step is really nothing and letting them do what they want, im pretty excited to see them progress. What about swimming in pools? Will the chemicals or anything effect the dreading process negatively at all?
wash em good after ya swim... if u can swim in untreated water but if u onluy got a pool then dont worry
thanks for the replies, i just did a saltwater with lemon juice soak to try and help it along, but i guess for the most part ill just be waiting.
