What is opinion on pornografhy?

Is it detgrading to the actors invovled or do you think its ok to watch it? Why or why not?

PS: I would have posted this in the Love and Sex forum except i really wanted opinions from people who posted on this part of the site more. If an admin wants to move it there tho, its fine with me.

 

I believe that anybody should be able to watch anything they want. Pornography is okay as long as it's consentual and the actors are of legal age, of course. That's my opinion on people's freedom. As to whether or not it's degrading...it is (or it must be) consentual, but much pornography definitely has a tendency to be degrading, especially when it seems to objectify women...there's plenty of porno that's not like that, and in many cases, you could almost consider it to be a kind of an art form...
But usually that's not how it is. I would say that it's okay to watch it, but nobody should be ignorant enough to actually be influenced by what they see. My thoughts, anyway. What is really needed is awareness. Mainstream society cant just ignore things like that, and there must be some kind of "harm reduction" (like what SHOULD be going on with most other issues) since many of the viewers end up normalizing sexism.

If people dont like it they dont have to watch it.

i've never quite decided about it. from a girl's point of view, in some ways i can see how it could empower a woman. but on the other hand, is becoming a porn actress a job that women are forced into because they need the money? because if so then it's degrading and horrible. in a world where men and women are equal, get equal wages and women don't feel they *have* to turn themselves into sex objects just to survive i think it's perfectly fine, when consentual. but we don't live in that world do we?

i know i've just disregarded the fact men are in porn too, but i feel it's more of an issue for women, like prostitution.

I totally agree with all you saying anyone and everyone should be allowed to wacth pornografhy, but my queswtion was asking more about whether or not you would wacth it, and wheter you view it to be degrading to the actors or not.

 

Its cool with me for anybody to watch what they want thats what freedom is for. I personally don't was porn I prefer the real thing and it is somewhat degrading to women because some of the guys now adays then expect there girls to act like they are on the movies. Peace and love to all

I like porn, both written and visual. Even create it occasionally. But we are talking about the video porn here and as everyone seems to agree, as long as it is consensual between the participants it is alright.


Porn is a very old industry. Before video there was live shows. Actually that would be more to my liking, really get close even smell the actors.

The question/accusation comes up is it degrading to women. That stance is likely due to the fact that men are the largest consumers of porn, whether straight or gay.

No, its a job for which the women get paid and they do it of their own free will like taking any other job.
