i recently got my nose pierced. i cleaned it everyday, 2 times, with tea tree oil for the amount of time my piercer reccommended. but now there's a small bump next to the piercing. it looks zit-like. i was wondering what it could be? and how should i treat it?

sounds like a little hypertrophic scarring or keloiding. This is generally caused by irritation and physical trauma from bumping the piercing or touching it.

Common wisdom for piercing aftercare is simple hot saline soaks(1/4tsp non-iodized sea salt/1 cup hot water) 3-4x a day. Tea tree oil would not be typically neccesary. In fact many of the things put on hhealing piercings are counter productive because they cause drying and irritation. IMHO, I would start simple saline soaks and not f*** with it. No touching, no changing jewelery, etc. until it is fully healed(several months). The only exceptions is if you get the piercing filthy, in which case, I would use a little dial soap in the shower.

Everybody has different opinions on aftercare, and everyone heals diffferently. However, for the vast majority of people, saline soaks are all that is necesary. I would try doing the salt soaks and the bumo will likely go away.

    Cheers

this is a little off topic but what about trying to get rid of them after you take the piercing out. I have bad one where my industral was and id really like to make it go away.

You can try something meant to diminish scars such as coco butter or emu oil or one of those creams specifically meant for scars. I think these are mainly just heavy duty lotions that soften up the scars and make it less visible. I've also been told that applying a ppaste of ground aspirin regularily will diminish the keloid. If they get bad enough, doctors routinely burn/cut them off.

Anyway, the disclaimer is that I have no personal experience with these options. My keloiding went away with proper after care. These are just things I've been told by piercers and read on reputable sites.

    Cheers

oh so if it is a keloid, crush up asprin, miz it with a lil watr, jsut a lil water so that it makes like a paste. Before you go to bed at night but the paste on the bump. The asprin will dry it out, and it wil eventually start to go away. It the easierst way to do it.

this is kind of late i suppose to respond but, when i got mine done i cleaned it 2x a day with the salt water, and antibacterial soap [all what the place said] and that happened. i got some tea tree oil and it took a little over a week but the bump started to dry and get smaller and eventually like fell off. but i never started cleaning mine with the oil in the beginning so im not too sure.

i ended up just getting some more tea tree oil, used it twice a day and now it's basically all gone. i'm just continuing to clean it so it doesn't come back.
