Can I grow bud with now plant food? I just wnat to make my first grow as simple as possible. I'm open to adding stuff to the soil, but I'm affraid I may over-feed my babies if I do use plant food. HELP!!!!
jumper get something that you can throw on top of the soil and watering will move the nutrition into the soil. since you're going organic there's a much slimmer chance of you burning/over-feeding your plants. vermi-compost is great stuff though harder to find locally. places like Lowes and Home Depot carry Cock-a-Doodle-Doo which is composted chicken manure.
One word: Bat guano (ok, two), put in baby jar to hyrate (shaken not stired), dump on soil surface before watering. OR Good mix like Whitney Farms. No, a no nutrient plant is a sad and under nurished plant. It will taste like poo and get you high like it too.
use a product like mother earth organics liquide compost technicaly it contains no traceable nutrients but, it activates the soil unlocking the nutrients..i think how it works is by activating certian microbes which help in the nutrient flow from soil to root weve used this to grow in some of the worse soils imaginable (and hes done some testing with growing in the turkish dessert sand using it its made from some 60 million year old composted rainforrest thats mined in utah, its really good stuff anmd regular use makes the soil no longer need fertalization however..its not a fertalizer itself, and contains not enough traceable nutrients to be concidered a nitrient source however..use it..and stuff grows like crazy
<edit>Just saw this in the organic section OOops! Bah on all those others! Guano, worm castings and the others work great but you can still torch the girls if you don't know what you are doing. After you get more confident you will find a good soil mix. BOG (Bushy Old Grower) has an excellent book (Bonanza of Green) with good soil mixes in it BTW. I'll try and pop a review up in the MJGuide soon. BUT..... You can actually use Miracle Grow Soil with the time release nutrients. It is a naturally low pH soil that when combined with the higher pH tapwater (~ 7 units) works out great for herb. Just buy a few bags and transplant when you find yourself watering everyother day (good for root growth and providing more nutrients). Be sure to buy a little box of epsom salts as the MG soil doesn't contain alot of magnesium and occassionally add a tsp/gallon of water once in a while to supplement it. Its not the best way but it is an easy cheap way.
Should be able t top dress with fresh soil every so often like ya'd do with house plants if ya dont wanna use any fertilizer. Ya removes first inch or so n replace with lovely new soil but means ya have t water from the top.
One thing to remember with most organic fertilizers is that they still need to be broken down by microorganisms to some extent. This is because they are not in a form for the plants to use and uptake. therefore it will take longer for them to get used and theoretically reducing the chance of a nutrient burn. I may be wrong but this is how I look at it.
the old nitrogen cycle I remember it well from my fish keeping days lol, organic waste matter is broken down t less harmful no2 no3. Most ppl bake there soil t sterilize it so killing off the bad as well as the good microorganismions in the soil or growin media.
please help, can someone tel me when the babies are budding should they still be fed, if yes how often
When growing ya probably used a nitrogen based plant food ie it contained move N then any other fert now for budding ya need to move onto a potassium and phosphorous based plant food. The key word here is Move ya need to do it slowly as ya can end poisoning your plants if ya wrack a large dose into them to start off with. After saying all my first few were from start to finish just using a nitrogen based food and i still got a decent smoke. 1 last thing stop feeding 2 weeks before ya crop and ya buds will taste some much better.
