Smoking Addiction Becomes Biological Everyone always says I'm full of shit when I say that I'm not addicted to cigarettes, and only smoke them because I liek them. I go painlessly, sometimes over a week without a cigarette. they all come back with, "yeah yeah yeah, that's what they all say." Scientists have pinpointed genetic varyations that make people more likly to get hooked on cigarettes. There were 3 seperate teams of scientists that conducted research and the finding are very conclusive. The people with these genes also have a 70-80% greater chance to develop lung cancer. They soon hope to develop a way to screen for these genes.
They were just talking about this on the radio this morning. I found it interesting. They were saying hopefully this can lead to something along the lines of a "DNA card" where doctors can take a blood sample or something along those lines and examine your DNA and see which diseases/complications you are predisposed to. That way a person could essentially from birth take proactive measures to prevent them from getting these diseases. A study was also released that a smoker who exercises 30 min a day generally will live longer than a non smoking couch potato.
while it's very rare, some people are completely immune to the addictive properties of cigarettes. you may very well be one of them. but i still don't understand how you'd actually like them...
im like that. im not a smoker but once in a while il smoke a cig if im in the mood or needa take a quick shit or relax when im pissed off. but no addiction. so your saying i have 70-80% more chance of getting lung cancer than others? shit that sucks
I think what was found that people likely to get addicted are more likely to get cancer. Its like the cigs seek out and destroy their victims. You also may have not smoked enough to get addicted, I wouldnt recommend trying to find out though.
