I know patience is a virtue but I am trying to speed up my evaporation of my spice saturated naptha. I know of the fan method and freeze prec, but my question: is it ok to place the casserole dish on a electric oil heater turned to a low setting to help speed up the process? Now I know the heat would keep the naptha saturated with the spice during the process, and they wouldn't fall from the solvent but I figure we're not even trying to let them fall from it, just decant it. ( I think, I'm new to this) Is the heat helping/not helping? I am just trying to perfect my method to what is simple and effective. Thanks.
i wouldnt use heat. it sounds like a bad idea. i do the evap with my window open and a small fan blowing over the glass pyrex dish.. never takes more than a few hrs for it to evap
I know what you mean man, I hate this evaporating nonsense. It takes forever? A few hours? more like a few weeks!!! and by time thats done, it'll have flies, fluff, dust and shite galore in it. the best way i've found so far, is to evap down to a certain amount using a water bath and tinfoil, try and keep the steam circulating around the bottom of the pyrex glass casserole dish (which I use) but be sure to allow a vent hole so It can escape. Put the fan on it, but don't blow at the water bath, have it skim across the top of the naptha on fastest setting. also, get a thermometer and don't go over 60*C. (DMT evaporates at 65*C) but because of the naptha, it'll be ok. then when its condensed down a fair amount, freeze percipitate and DONT FILTER. just pour or use a dropper to extract the top, clear naptha, in cold conditions. don't stir it up or let it get warm else it'll redissolve. put the clear naptha back into the evap equipment and keep condensing it down, leaving your dmt sludge in the bottom, and keep it in the freezer till you are ready to evap and net. save the first fraction/sludge and evaporate it seperate from the other stuff. The idea of the freeze percip is to get rid of lots of oils, which will be in the remainder naptha; however there will still be some dmt remaining. Pour your sludge, which should be light yellow or white into a fresh, clean pyrex dish (or clean it) with the largest surface area possible. Evap as usual, but turn the heat down to 45 - 50*C so as to make no chance of filling your kitchen with DMT smoke. there you go. should take anywhere from a few hours to 2 days (honest estimate.) bullshit to anyone who says 'a few hours' like its the norm. It depends on how much naptha you use. try to use as little as possible! (100ml is more than enough for 1kg or mimosa)
Man, you guys are making this really complicated. There's no real need to evaporate. Once you're done and all your naptha is in your collection jar, all you need to do is freeze precipitate. If you used the right amount of naptha, all this means is putting your 50 ml or so of naptha in the freezer overnight and filtering in the morning. I use funny-shaped jars, so what I do is use a lot of extra naptha (about 120 ml or so) and that makes it easier to siphon off the top of the solution. I then throw that in a glass baking dish and put it on top of a pot of boiling water with a fan blowing at it on low. I evaporate it down to a little bit of nothing, then throw it in the freezer. Filter in the morning and I have nice, white crystals. I always evaporate my solvent down anyway, and collect the little bits that are left. I like to give that to people trying DMT for their first time. It doesn't have near the punch of white DMT, but it'll let people get a good taste for it. I found out tonight that if you swirl the naptha every 30 minutes or so while it's freezing, you'll come out with bigger pieces. I'm sure it could be streamlined so that you have one big, white chunk of spice. You said you were going for simple and quick: freeze precipitation has both of those advantages, as well as making better product.
I second that. Freeze precipitation is the best way to go IMO. Also anytime you need to leave a dish out to evaporate (especially if its left outside), you can cover it with pantyhose. It'll keep the bugs and dust out.
