Fear? Oh, yes, just another synonym for their life energy and sustenance. Religion is constructed from the ground up based on the powerful persuasive effect of fear. Name me a religion not based off of punishment and reward, and involving acts of self deprivation and in some cases masochism. Not one, except maybe the noble Unitarians who believe everyone is saved..

It's just.. such a contagious thought. Someone in the sky who loves me, and who sends different people to hell, a thought that appeals to my natural instinct of prejudice as a human being. This thought answers all of my metaphysical questions about my existence. I can shape him to whoever I want to be in my mind. I also have a direct feed channel to his words as well, because being religious I almost always know beyond a shadow of a doubt when my god is angry, and what he plans on doing.

It's a masochistic, superstitious institution. Ever seen the Muslims with their rituals of whipping their backs bloody, and cutting marks into their childrans' forheads with knives? Anyone remember the chalice? Sounds like a sick porno. How ironic is it then that while this is justified, actual acts of sex are always persecuted in every religion. Our highest instinct, reproduction! It's almost as if we get an evolutionary bonus from this burden of religion, depriving ourselves, like the male fiddler crab's oversized claw, or the peacock's tail. The peacock's tail has no evolutionary benefit, but to attract mates. The colors excite and impress the female. Perhaps we have attained a benefit long ago to burden ourselves like the peacock, for it may have enabled us to improve ourselves with this ascetism. But any benefit it had is gone, and should be thrown into history as just another corrupt institution.

U know that's a good point... To every sin I have seen a beautiful logic behind as to why it is a wrong or sometimes dangerous choice to make. Other then contracting an STD is there is any LOGIC at all behind the Christian teaching of sex being bad??
