I have a slight of idea of what the SAT is like since I took PSAT my sr. year, but I never took SAT. I took TASP to get into Blinn College (a transfer college), but unfortunatly I got kicked out for smoking weed in my dorm and being caught by my bitchy R.A. Since then I've stopped buying weed (as in I only smoke when out partying w/ friends) and have decided upon my major that I am eager to pursue in college (hopefully by Spring semester). I want a Bachelor of Fine Arts in a program in Advertising and Graphic Design. I want to work in magazines. I'm really creative, and I think I have a lot of talent. But first off I need to take SAT or ACT, what is ACT? Which is easier? I suck at math. But anyways there is a SAT & subject tests on Oct 9th, deadline Sept, 7th, but the one I want to take is the one on Nov. 6th deadline Oct 1st but it's called SAT & subject tests- includes language tests w/ listening and EPTtm <---- what does that mean? Am I eligle for that one, or is that one only for people with learning disabilities, which I am not diagnosed with. For the school I want to go to as I a freshman it says this which I also don't get: 1st quarter (top 25%): act/no minimum or SAT/no min 2nd quarter : ACT 19 or SAT 930 3rd "": ACT: 22 or SAT 1030 4th "": ACT 25 or SAT 1140 What does that mean?, and no I was definatly not in the top 25% of my graduating class. Help me someone who knows!!! please. I don't want to be a grocery store cashier forever, I hate it. I want to use my creative talent and enjoy my career.
ACT is generally better for people that suck at math, like me. It's on a scale of 1-32, a really good score on the ACT would be a 27 or so. It encompasses all subject matter, not just verbal and math. Good luck!
The ACT is actually on a scale of 1 to 36. A 27 is above average, but not spectacular. I personally found the ACT much easier than the SAT. The ACT is in four parts, I believe. There is math, science (which is basically just testing an ability to read graphs and comprehend information), reading comprehension, and grammar. I think that's what is on it. The math on the ACT is more advanced, but there is less of it than on the SAT. They are beginning a new version of the SAT, though. Does anyone know if they've done that yet?
There are two reasons why you should take the ACT. The first is what has already been mentioned; the ACT is easier. It is easier because it has five sections if I remember correctly AND filling in wrong answers doesn't count against you. The only thing that matters is how many you get right. The other reason that is even better is that a lot of schools who want SAT scores only will accept a sort of converted score from the ACT. In general, the converted ACT score is higher than what you'd most likely actually score on the SAT. Peace
It sounds like to me people just take the SAT because it's more popular or it makes you look better for colleges because it's harder and you are really smart if you make good scores. The new SAT starts Jan 22 2005. So I would have to take the old one because I want to go to college in the spring. Total bummer.
i never took the ACT because my college doesn't accept it - just the SAT. i'm not sure what their reasoning is for this, maybe they realized that it was, as you guys have been saying, easier ? hehe
Generally speaking, take the the ACT if you are planning on applying to a midwestern school and the SAT for anywhere else. Midwestern schools frown on the SAT. Also, as far as the math part, the SAT allows calculators with computer algebra software (such as the TI-89 or TI-92) while the ACT does not. Peace, Al
I think the ACT is generally easier for most people, but it varies from person to person. If I were you I would take both, just in case.. Or at least be sure to check the college you will be attending to see which they require or prefer. And, as someone mentioned before, they are supposed to be changing the SAT over to be more like the ACT, from what I understand, which I'm pretty sure will happen by february or march.
in Alabama it seems everyone takes the ACT, where i was in Texas i never heard of anyone taking the ACT, everyone takes the SAT.
I applied for the ACt onlne but I had no conformation so i don't know if I'm registered, which is weird. I applied for the SAt and I got to print out a admission ticket and it was much easier to apply on line. And I know my debit card went through. So, I guess it's too late for the ACT anyway, I don't know what the deal is. It told me my only conformation is something that comes in the mail in 2 weeks? The SAT looks totally hard I have a book, and I don't know any of the practice question answers. I hope I don't like make a 100 or something totally bad.
First, how many credit hours did you complete at your first school? Or were you kicked out in your first semester there, before you could complete any? If you completed a couple of semesters, these scores will be far less important than your gpa in those college courses. As for what the quoted stuff means, your high school gpa affects the minimum score required for admittance. If you scored in the top 25% of your class, you could completely bomb the SAT/ACT & it wouldn't affect your chances. Basically, if you are a good student, it doesn't matter if you are bad at standardized tests. However, if you did not do as well in high school, you need to prove yourself. If you were in the lower 25% of your class, you have to make up for that by doing relatively well on the exams. If you were average in high school, you can get by with average scores on the exams. So, if you want to know exactly how well you need to do on the test, you need to find out exactly which quarter of your graduating class you were in (as in, more specifically than just not in top 25%).
