Does anybody remember Water Mamma? She came with 100 gallons of water and handed em out for free because the locals were charging for water.

    Thats my aunt =].

Was your Aunt a resident of the area as well ? I ask cause I was born and raised about 8-9 miles down the road and wonder if she was someone I may have known or known about ?

It's kinda sad that woodstock was supposed to be about getting away from straight society, if only for a few days, and people couldn't even plan to bring enough water or food. But, their were plenty of drugs to go around.

Thats nice of your aunt though.

Well, you have to understand that planning wasn't a part of the contemporary counter-culture's mindset; planning would have reflected a cave-in to the ideals of the establishment. Besides, "NO ONE" expected that kind of turnout, which eventually amounted to the impromptu third largest city in the entire state of New York for a short three day span.

My aunt lived on brighten avenue. I beleive that was in staten island though.

But my mom and another aunt lived about 9 or 10 miles from there with my grandparents. Their last name was weiss, and my grandfather's last name was whol. He actualy is the legestlator of sullivan county right now, or maybe his term just ended. I think they lived in woodridge at the time.

Ah! Woodridge, I know it well... The Motel Glory that was in Woodridge at the time is actually mentioned in the movie during Chip Moncks stage announcements... If they lived in Woodridge back then, they probably went to Fallburgh schools. I went to Monticello. Weiss was/is a very common name in the Borscht Belt area...

I was at Woodstock, went with my sister and a neighbor chick she was 21 that's why we were allowed to go, we were 17 and 18, we had nothing no food, water or shelter, we had no idea what to expect, so we relied on the kindness of others and we found it, very cool people helped us out as much as they could. It was great, the sound was not so great and seeing the bands was not easy, so we just fell into watching the show around us, people everywere dancing, loving, singing just having a hell of a time. However rain and mud made things nasty, we did have extra clothes, but no place to change so we would hold up blankets around us to change, I did not see the lady giving out water wish I did, but with so many people it was hard to make anything out. Never will forget it a real happening.

    Peace

In my mom's early years she lived in woodridge, then when she was a teenager moved to monticello. She went to monticello high i beleive, but she is only 41 now, so a bit behind you.

Cool... She is only three years behind me so there's a good chance I went to high school with her. Send me her name in a private message, maybe I know her - or of her...

How do you get to the Woodstock sight from Monticello? My great grandpa lives in Beach Lake, PA and we get off 17 at exit 104 to Monticello and I don't know the road, but we pass the racetrack and White Lake (the actual lake). I don't know if any of you guys know what road I'm talking about.

I know exactly what road your talking about. Once you get off exit 104 and are going past the Monticello Raceway you are now on route 17B, otherwise know as the famous "Hippie Highway." About another 2 miles past White Lake you come past Happy Ave. on the right, and the next road (there is a sign for "Bethel Woods") is Hurd Road, turn there; the field on the right where Hurd Road meets West Shore Drive is the historic site of Woodstock, there is a monument there just off the road; the "Tomb of the Unknown Hippie." Yasgur Road is slightly further up 17B past Hurd Road where Max Yasgur's house and barn are, where we have had many a nice Woodstock reunion - there's a statue of Paul Bunyon near the road...

That is so cool. I've been going up to my great grandparent's house since I was a baby and never knew that road we go down was so famous. I don't know the name of any of the roads up there I just know how to get there from landmarks. To get to my great grandpa's house we go along 17B until we hit "the big red barn" on the right and turn left on this other long, winding road. At the end of that road is a tinman statue and we make a right there, into Narrowsburg, and over the bridge into PA.

Right, you're basically driving 17B to Fosterdale, then turning left to Narrowsburg, where you can see Fort Delaware.
