1) Is the quoted statement an accurate statement of what you are doing when you worship objects, statues, or pictures? "The honor which is paid to the image passes on to that which the image represents, and he who reveres the image reveres in it the subject represented". 2) Is it correct to assert that when you worship an object, statue or picture of a god, you are not worshiping the object directly in front of you, but rather you are worshiping the entity or concept of the god who is elsewhere or everywhere? I am doing research into belief systems and practices. I do not want to get into a Animism vs Islam or Animism vs Christianity debate here. My purpose is to LEARN ABOUT THE ANIMISTS.
one of the problems with this forum is the name and the lack of clearity as to what is ment by it. keepers of indiginous traditions don't worship objects. it is highly questionable to use the term worship in this context at all. rather it is a reverence for the spiritness in all places and things, primarily living or once living things, and places with a strong feeling of spiritness. i think it woud be better for this forum to be called something like either "earth religeons" or "the keeping of indiginous traditions". i believe that would create less of this kind of confusion. something an implied monotheistic bias promotes. =^^= .../\...
while i generally aggree with the sense of that, i would also point out, that monotheism, from whence comes such a concept as "sin", also makes an object of its god, which it then worships as one. now i'm not saying there's anything wrong with being hugged by and hugging back something you can feel and experience without having to pretend to know anything about it. i just see love, good, worship as such, not above question. i love my little invisible friends, who may be spirit creatures of some sort, too, and i really don't see anything wrong or conflicting about doing so. i'm not claiming to be a standard of judgement on what i can't possibly know any more then anyone else can either. this is just how it makes sense to me to feel. =^^= .../\...
well personally i think that worshiping an object is a good thing, especially if it has different properties than you the way i see it is that when everything is together oneness is achieved and every single talent and downfall is honored in this way of thought i honor everything as everything has its good parts whether it is an object or a proclaimed god. it is the idea behind worshiping anything even if it is so different from yourself so you my understand them better and hopefully take on the good side of their personalities this is a pretty new view for me so i would like any thoughts on it and wether it is animism
Worship means simply to give worth....not grovel and be sub to....like christians use the word....but it is a heathen word, Worthship.
intersting! i dont think that honor is the same as grovel and sub either. but when i think of worth i think of money so in my opinion i think that it is to value them??? what do you think???
Worth, and value, and price are pretty different concepts...it is to give them reverence, to make them revered. BUT, reverence is not a native english word....worth, or weorđ, is...value is not a native english word either....SO, you have to consider the language that was spoken at the time that weorđscipe was spoken...they didn't have "value" or "reverence" to choose, the only had weorđ.
