Whenever I have felt it nessisary to reaserch Shamanism ( a religion that I am now following, and a few of my friends, who have gotten me into it follow too) I always see things on Animism and I am just wondering.... what is the difference? The roots of the religions beginings? or is there more? Also, any practicing either of the two religions are welcom to contact me (also people who feel it nessisary to troll others) can contact me via: my AIM: MikamiKira (i forgot if there is a space =\ ) My MSN: animephr3ak@hotmail.com OR hinataluv4me@hotmail.com and finally my Yahoo IM: Yondamie_Teh_kage
well for what its worth "shamanism" is NOT one religeon, but rather a classifiction of (generally indiginous) religeous practices. and probably not a very well defined or definable classification, though each of those practices specificly entirely are. "anamism" is also one of those same sorts of generalizations. there are specific ways of perceiving and relating to species spirts and the spirts and spiritnessess of places and things. again each specific to a specific culture, often a culture connected with a particular geographic area over thousands of years. =^^= .../\...
hi, im also trying to find my religion and philosophy and have come across both religions but am finding it hard to find anything / anyone who can help / guide me in this or even to disscuss some of the ideas so i was wondering if you had any information on either religion or would like to chat about any of the ideas.
Shamanism (a term I try to avoid) is a practice, a vocation, a role in a tribe. Animism, however, is a worldview, the worldview that shamanism exists in. I am not sure what you mean when you say shamanism, but if you are looking for somesort of "core shamanic" practice, I recommend you read Way of the Shaman by Michael Harner. As to the roots of animism, it is rooted in mans first awarness, and grew organically from it. Dr. Joseph Campbell said it best. "The voice in the thunder is the first suggestion of a power greater than that of the human system." That is where its roots emerge.
