Agreed. Openings are for wimps yo, I just start lining up stabbing points and go at it, and during the middle game I start pulling some sneaks.
Yeah... if you wanna go into basic strategy... Make sure that each and everyone of your pieces is defended (or at least not under risk), play an open and developed game (a lot of people tend to ignore their horses, rooks, or bishops), ad make sure to think a couple of moves ahead. Play your opponent's game at the same time that you're playing yours. Use the time he takes to think of his next move to not only think of your next moves, but to also think of his next moves. ...and never leave the king in a corner surrounded by pawns.
...and dont send the Queen out too early. Shit always goes wrong lol especially if your playing Black
I like to make a diagonal line with the pawns, up the left and going down one square each towards the rook, shoot out a bishop or two, a horse, and then back it up with the Queen and sometimes the left rook, but thats just me
Yeah, you sure can intimidate someone with a Queen, and maybe take a couple of pawns... but you will always pay for it. I usually go for the queen exchange if I can make it happen. Some people rely on the queen so much that taking it out (even if you loose your own queen in the process) breaks their entire game.
knowing the openings (not memorizing) allows you to develop yoru middle game strategy and tactics that will prove essential in the end game. pick an opening and learn the in's and outs of it for your style of play. i like attacking, i play to take advantage of the open board, not stronghold defense in the beginning
That's how my man Aidan is. I almost always do the Queen for a Queen sacrifice just to throw him off. But somehow, I still cant beat him. He's one of those master kids, probably because he's Asian.
Learning openings can also limit you, unless you know plenty. I find that reacting to my opponent's moves is usually a better strategy than going with something memorized. I just can't stand the clinical nature of it. (Which means that I'll probably loose a whole lot of ground to someone who knows his openings... c'est la vie!)
I use to play quite a bit.. one of the few good things my ex taught me I'm not sure how well I'd rate myself but I enjoy playing
I play very little these days. I used to play quite a bit when I was younger. I also use Yahoo Chess. so if any of you fancy a game sometime, PM me if I'm online here. BTW Praxis kicked my ass a couple of weeks back.
