Hey everyone. I'm a photographer in Jacksonville, North-East Florida. And I've really been wanting to get to shoot some people doing suspension.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any suspension events in my general area? And if not, if anyone knows where I could get some info about it.
It seems like alot of people do it, but it's still so hard to find any good information on it it seems. Thanks people.

You should ask around at piercing shops and check bmezine.com for people who are interested in it. The commoness of this practice is relative. I had a deep interest in hanging and it took me 2 years before I even began to know where to look to find people into the scene. I still haven't gone up, but I hope to be in a position to do it someday.

At any rate, it is very sub culture and taboo and possibly illegal in some places, so practicioners are generally secretive or selective in who participates.

    Cheers

Yeah, I've been interested in it for a few years now. I think the first place I ever heard anything about it was that television show, Ripley's Believe it or not, and ever since then it's been on my mind.
But I figured for now I could settle with photographing it instead of actually doing it just yet.
I never thought about asking around piercing and tattoo parlors, I'll definitely have to keep that in mind. I know over seas it's become alot more popular than it has here, or well, at least there are more groups that are open about it. Too bad I can't make a sudden trip to the UK.
    Thanks! ^_^

To make gross generalizations, piercers are more likely to be knowledgeable abnout suspesions than tattooist. In my experience, piercers are often drawn to the profession because of the ritual aspects, whereas many tattooist are just artists that view skin as their canvas.

Of course this is a stereotype, but the running joke in a couple of the shops I go to is that the piercer is always the hardcore mofo.

Lol, well around here, I'm not really sure about other places, it's really hard to find just a piercing parlor, there are a few but they're rare. Most of the places are advertised as tattoo parlors and either one of the tattooists does the piercings as well or they have a piercer that only comes in a few days a week. I've had to go back and forth trying to catch someone to pierce me before for almost a week, it was horrible, lol.
But I think the tattoo shops are the best idea for actually finding something local. Alot of the ones around here have public bulletin boards in the shop so people can come and put up fliers about tattoo conventions and things like that. Maybe I'll get lucky!

And hey, if the piercer is the hardcore mofo, what about the tattoo artists that do piercings too...that's gotta' make them like freakin' Zues!!!

Here in WV I can't find anyone that thinks anything positive about suspension. I'm very much into suspension and want to somehow be suspended above Seneca Rock here in WV. Google it, check it out and you'll see what I mean. I'm trying to get my piercing license at the moment and I actually wanna try to boost the idea of suspension to a few people around here. Maybe I'll be able to get quite a few ladies and hang them all together from one apparatise and snap some pics for a portfolio.

It's illegal in alot of places, normally they are secret groups that do suspension in warehouses. Very cool stuff.

It's perfectly legal in Ohio. The place I get pierced and tattooed at, Body Anthology, does private suspensions on Sundays after they close. I wanna do it like, bad... but it's probably insanely expensive.

They do shows, every once in a while, with flesh pulls and sometimes suspensions.

    It's a very intriguing concept.
