So ive desided that Im going to start watching less TV and read and be outside a lot more. I have gotten to the point where even if Im reading I turn on the tv and only read durning comercials. So im going to try to cut back to just an hour of tv in the mornings, and an hour of tv before bed. We will see how it goes. Does anyone else have an opinion on the TV hang up?

Good move. Less or no TV is way better than more. Most of what's on is crap anyway.

Very healthy! Having the tv on while reading sounds like it's on pretty much for nothing anyway. I think too many people watch too much tv. I also begin to think though that the tv and the huge amount of channels on it isn't the problem, it's the people who are. We should stop blaming technology like this (and the internet too for that matter) for all the shit we see and just use our sense in the amount of time we watch it and what we watch. We also should take more responsibility what kind of programs we're broadcasting... but I guess since many viewers means money taking responsibility is just a dream :(. In that case I'd still say watch more critical and less often. Oh, and use a tv guide so you can be more selective.

Ah well, and don't we have the right to broadcast bad quality shows since it's obviously well-viewed? Or is it only well-viewed nowadays because the majority of the viewers are dumbed down and less critical...

I don't bother watching TV. When I'm at my parents house they always watch TV but I just go in my room and toke and read. At my boyfriends house we jsut sit around and talk and toke all the time, no satelite anyways so it's pointless. I ahte TV anyway, I always just end up ranting about whoever or whatever is on.

It is thus said, A man who becomes too intelligent, wanders through life alone. Tv these days are usually rerun soaps and documentaries about how life in the world sucks or how many more hearts and fingers have been blown apart in the Iraq War.

Reading offers people like yourself the opportunity to be the master of his own entertainment. Choose from as many different titles as you like. Congratulations, but don't get carried away reading books at night. Also, you save on the tv licence. Therefore, you benefit financially. Radio is a more intimate form of media. Go for it;)

DVR saved my life. We have it record all the shows we like and then on Sundays (which is our official day to do absolutely nothing) we sit around, get high and watch a whole week's worth of TV.

Of course there's a lot of crappy TV (and we watch that too), but shows like Nova, Nature, The Universe, this HBO miniseries about John Adams...those are really cool shows, and I definitely don't feel guilty about vegging out in front of them.

I watch reality shows. I can't quit them. I'm helpless to resist. I watched "America's Next Supermodel". They're like crack. I would probably suck dick in an alley if it meant not missing Survivor.

I don't have the tv in my dorm room and I used to think that when I come home in every 3 weeks or so I'll be spending every minute watching it because I'll miss it...But I'm not!
I go around the channels only to realize that I'm not missing anything besides few good shows on National geographic and Explorer....And right now the political situation in my country is messier than ever before so it's better I'm skipping it all...
I've got my Gilmore girls on dvd and that's all I need!...:)

I would watch TV, if producers came up with something better than "Reality" TV then it would be worthwhile. I do like National Geographic, that's good, and Discovery Channel, but I don't watch that often.

I've had tv in the past but keep cancelling my service cause I never watch it.My friend connected me to his tv connection through a program called sling box so now I get it free.I rarely watch anyways except for forensic files and shows like that, every long while when I'm bored with everything else.I get irratated with tv and start yelling back at the screen espicially during commercials,tv only seems to get me angry really.I usually keep thinking:how stupid do the producers of these shows and commercials think we/I am?.I used to enjoy Discovery,Animal planet and the like but I gave up on those too,as I did'nt like most of the shows they were broadcasting anymore and felt like they sold out basically.I read alot more now and watch the dvd's I want to see.I like having more freedom to choose, and NO commercials!
