No, not the new Robbie Williams single. That's crazy talk. I've started working nights and at the moment my trainer always puts GalaxyFM on when we head into the factory. What is going on with radio these days? It's been a long time since I've listened to the radio, but it was surely never this bad before. At the moment I'm guarenteed to hear 'These Words' by Natasha Beddingfield and 'Real To Me' by Brian McFadden at least six times a night - Along with about four other dreadful songs stuck on repeat. But, this is my last week of training, I get control of that dial come Sunday! So does anyone know of some decent shows on the radio between 9pm and 5am Sunday to Thursday? I'm guessing John Peel and Bob Harris are still going, but they're both Saturday shows are they not?
Virgin Radio at 1215 AM tends to play some decent stuff, not a great deal of pop, not usually too many repeats and some nice older stuff thrown in. I listen to it online and i dont find it too bad galaxy, round here thats a crappy dance station...and not quality dance tracks mind, just the TAT... is it the same your way on then?
Aye, they claim to be a dance station. You'd have to be pretty damn smashed on ecstasy to dance to Natasha Beddingfield like. It's the repeatitiveness of it all that really bugs me. I could handle some crap, but not the same steaming pile of crap five times a night. Virgin, ay? They used to have that no repeat 9-5pm which I have to admit is quite impressive - I shall give them a whirl Thank ya
Galaxy? haha, the most repetitive station I've ever heard. They play it at work in the kitchens, and I swear just in a 5 hour shift I will have heard the same playlist at least 3 times. And that will include hearing 'Babycakes' at least 7 times. Its a joke! I always stick to Radio 2, the finest radio station in my opinion. From listening to Terry Wogan on the way to college, to the specialist programmes on an evening, like when Brad Pitt did a whole evening about Nick Drake, that was fantastic. Its got a real mix of everything on that station as it has no real guidelines or promises to fulfil, its fantastic. I'm not sure what would be on during your shifts, but it would probably be something good or interesting. As for Robbie Williams' new song...it is quite possibly the worst song I've heard in a long long time.
We have Ridings FM, the local Wakefield station where I work. It's not too bad. Bad points include Natasha Bedingfield, Busted, Britney Spears, and cutting a shitload of bits from songs that I kind of like (Boston's "More Than A Feeling" and most Meatloaf songs) Good points include some Dire Straits, Bruce Springsteen (yes that is a bloody good point, be quiet ), the occasional Rolling Stones song, some Queen (I let my hair down and headbanged to the guitar part of Bohemian Rhapsody while palletising a few weeks ago. What fun!), and some Beach Boys...and other older stuff. Of course, the best thing about Ridings FM is there's absolutely no Babycakes! I've never heard them play it, ever. Thank goodness...
I have to say that I'm quite a dedicated Radio 2 listener... loved it when Johnathan Ross was standing in for dear old Terry Wogan on the breakfast show... extremely funny and fantastic music... Any digital listeners out there?... i was wondering if 6Music was any good... Fly...
Ooo, while on the subject of Radio 2...does anyone know if Suzi Quatro still has a show on it? She used to play 50s-ish rock and roll music, and I think she even had entire excerpts from classic radio shows...WYMG or something like that?
is there anyone else who has a digital radio, but find that its not lived up to the hype that it had. kerrang sounds just like x fm and the storm sounds just like kerrang :$ . ah well. im playing a micth hedgeberg comedy recording at the same time as in utero rock an rrooooooolll:H .
My favorite station is Classic gold... we get it down here on MW as its based around here.. But it's mainly a digital station.. It rocks my socks... I even get to wake up with Tony Blackburn.. *Rah*
Thought I'd drag this post back, I'm pretty handy with the old wireless now you see Radio 1 and 2 does seem to be where it's at. Giles Petersen on the sunday, Lamaqe and Mary Anne Hobbs on Monday, the OneMusic shows are rather grand but were definitely better blended by Peel, and Annie Mac/Annie Nightingale either side of onemusic on Thursday. Does anyone catch any OneClick action? Radio1 3am...The comedy one on the Thursday is always kinda bizarre. Anyway, this is why I bring back the post, the oneclick show last night was a folk music special and it was really amazing... http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/oneclick/open/ It opens with Johnny Cash doing "It Aint Me" and if that's not grabage enough, The Fence Collective, Joanna Newsham and Devandra Banhart (sp?) may be
