Hey everyone! *waves* My name's Lindsey, or Lettuce, whatever, and I've been lurking around in this forum for quite some time and thought I'd introduce myself. My dreads were born on October 25, 2007, so they're still babies. I started out with backcombing and a bit of wax (it's all gone now.... I hope....) but now they're free to do whatever. pics (in all of these, my dreads are three or four months): here they're about... three/four months. I've still got a lot of loose hair (especially underneath) because my hair is so thick. scary scary. but that's my head. i'm the nappy headed one. perpetuating the stereotype. I'll definitely be posting more pictures once I get a camera, and I might even make a timeline.... someday. And now for a tale! I work at a popular midwestern fast food establishment. Today was my third day. I went to the interview with my hair in a ponytail, they hired me, no questions asked. Today, I went into work and was told that they couldn't keep me and continue to train me if I had dreads. Basically, they told me to either leave or brush my hair. I didn't want to do either, so I asked for something in writing explaining why I was being let go, planning to document the whole ordeal and report them to.... somewhere for their bullshit. (I mean, they hired me without saying anything about my hair, so I didn't think it was fair that they were pretty much gonna fire me.) When I got it and read it, it said that I had "unclean" hair, which was against company policy. I then explained to them that dreads are not, in fact, dirty. They told me fine, just wear it in a bun from now on. So yay.... I have a job still.
hurray for fighting the man AND perpetuating the stereotype! the dreads are coming along great, cant wait to see more!
