With the increase of repeat documentaries about how they make a toilet seat, and the influx of corny comedy like Gavin and stacy, Little Britain etc. Isn't it quite a breath of fresh air to listen to something interesting, humourous and perhaps entertaining on the old wireless? With the release of DAB, I think it is perhaps the best time to listen to radio ga ga. BBC7 has some interesting spoken word and classic comedy. BBC 6 music has some great music. Planet rock for the goths. LBC for the news on the hour. If you had a choice, would you ditch the tv, save money by avoiding the licence fee, and buy a DAB radio with superior sound?
Radio for me seems more intimate as it forces one's mind to cunger up possible images of what the people behind the mic look like and makes you think about other people's views. Also, Radio is not confined to one place. As it is audio, it can follow you right into the bath. But Tv, is good simply for those who don't want to do much thinking. I am guilty of that sometimes.
I haven't had a TV for 10 years now and I don't miss it at all. I only watch TV when I'm visiting my mum, and it all seems to be about cooking or buying and selling houses. Radio programmes seem more intelligent on the whole, especially news and current affairs, and the coverage of all kinds of music is far superior to anything on TV. On the other hand, I do find myself buying a lot of DVDs to watch on my computer.
Both have their qualities: With Radio: You close your eyes and can be projected to your chosen location of imaginative euphoria. (With clear reception!) MUSIC is a quality of sound best experienced through our natural aural sense. Visually, T.V Pictures can emphasise an optical Spectrum illusion of joy, or depict with stark reality the negativity that promotes the need for change. <* Peace + Love ~ Save the Planet* >
There's nothing quite like the experience of connecting with a very well made radio programme or the excitement of listening to new sounds on a programme like the late John Peel's. Television is great too but only in small doses; in large doses it restricts thought because it bombards you with sensation without requiring you to think.
Precisely I enjoy a select few programmes but really not more than an hour a day or i become incredibly dim and useless for the rest of the day That said, im not much of a radio listener either. I read, write or daydream
I have a place for Tv in my life. I just watched a HD quality picture of Gadget on a HD computer. It was so vivid>
i dont have a TV and never have done..so i guess DAB, only it really isnt all that good and the gov. are thinking of scrapping the whole idea..internet is def. the best place to be!
I too have heard that DAB isn't really popular anymore. It really has to do with the newer stations not really getting enough listeners. But for those who still like digital, it is assured that it will remain on Freeview channels 700-714. for the forseeable future. My advice, don't invest in a DAB just yet
yeah, im nt sure who i heard this from, might not be reliable, bt i heard that the gov are trying to 'recall all DAB radios'...hell knows how they will do it...bt then again, it might jst b a rumour so dont quote me on it!
I do have a tv, don't watch it much, we just have local free tv with bunny ears (2 channels) But in a year they hope to stop that so you can only view it by satillite tv or cable, I will have no tv when that happens. I love listening to the radio, not so much for the music because my computer is better for that but for the different shows they air.Even though the radio is also rarely on. If i had to choose i would way rather have a radio.
I'd chose radio over TV. It keeps me entertained and informed over the long car journeys I have to do for work. It makes me feel like the travelling isn't such a waste of time when there's a good informative program on. It also wakes me up very well on my way into work in a morning and relaxes me on the way home. Love R2 on Saturday mornings too, whether recovering from a hangover or doing the cleaning! It feels a lot more special than TV somehow. Radio also has informed my music tastes over the years, especially Peel. Recently got Sky cos of the broadband and phone package (and sports for the fella) it's really put me off TV... too many programs... overkill! Used to watch Ashes to Ashes on a Thursday but know that's over I haven't bothered with it at all. Should really take a look in the Guide and see if there's anything worth watching as I'm sure there's some good programs on somewhere I just can't be bothered to look! Cx
I doubt that they will recall them because many DAB radios do contain the old analogue FM and quite often AM(Amplified Modulation) MW(Medium Wave. Not Medway). The problem with DAB is they are still too expensive, many have opted for both tv/radio fusion(DTT also contains radio stations). But perhaps it is more to do with the newer stations not being so popular. I suppose you can't revolutionise the radio....again. www.digitalspy.co.uk
all radio is dead. love me telly, in moderate doses, when i'm not creating. can easily see through it's brainwashing potential though.
Loads of stations on DAB but the majority of them are dire.If I want to listen to some music apart from records.cd's then its the web for me.
