bestfriend possibly psychopathic

I'm currently doing a research project on serial killers, and was reading the signs and symptoms of psychopaths/sociopaths. My bestfriend who I'v known for years and we are very close, has many if not all of these symptoms. We have both been in different psychotherapies and seen many psychiatrists since we were very young, but unlike him I have made some progress. He was actually told by most of his doctors that there was no reason he should come back because he wasnt making progress. The thing about it is, most people cant see the similarities of his actions with those of a psychopath, they just thing he is an arrogant, self assured asshole who makes stupid impulse decisions. If i come off sounding intimidated or scared, im not. Im just concered for his well being and losing the brother i never had. Im sick of him being impulsive and lieing to people around us. At times he is very irrational, and im the only one who can seem to bring back to reality, even if its only temporarily. I dont know, im just kind of rambling now, id just like to hear any thought, feedback, or experience on this type of thing.

 

My old bestfriend will become a serial killer his mom even told him once that he has all the traits of a serial killer except one. He seems like the type to kill pretty girls that he cant have, it seems like a matter of time until he just snaps. He even got in trouble in High School when on a field trip this girl was flirting with him and then started flirting to another guy and he got all pissed and screamed im gonna kill everyone! He never scared me cause hell im probably crazier than him an i know im tougher. We had a falling out and when there is a party where both of us are goiing he wont even show up cause he knows how crazy i can get, basically he has seen how i fight. i dont have any hostility towards him but he thinks i do or he knows he will talk shit and i would fuck him up.

 

just make sure hes professional about it. wear mask, gloves, etc. if hes decent at it you may never know hes done it. which is the best for everyone.

 

I lived with someone who was a diagnosed sociopath for a long time. All I can say is be very careful to keep your own sanity. It isn't something to be trifled with whatsoever. When they drag you down to where they're at, it's not fun.

But I don't know what you personally can do, except stay cool yourself. From what I've read, sociopaths need intense therapy for a long time and often that doesn't even work. There's not much you can do for his mind, but that shouldn't unsettle your mind.

And if he starts killing people, tell on him.

 

I don't think its likely something to worry about. I would be aware of it, and make sure that you're careful about yourself. My concern, however, is more that he will use you than anything violent

Having certain tendencies doesn't mean that they are going to mature into something more. Especially at 18, he is likely to grow into himself. Alot of irrational behaviors and impulsiveness is due to being lost.
