    Company: Growers Choice

I will be growing outdoors and it will also be my first grow thus I will need a plant both easy to grow and well suited for an outdoor environment. These are the strains available at the store near my place. If anyone has any info regarding these strains or links that would be great. Price is $100 (CND) for 10 seeds and are apparently great quality (also 60%+ fem). All opinions welcome and appreciated :).

I would have liked growing some purple haze as I know it is a fairly easy strain to grow and also does very well outdoors. If you guys know of any great suppliers over the net let me know, I never know who is trustworthy and who is not when it comes to those websites and would much rather your personal opinions.

I plan on growing all my plants in large pots so they can be easily moved to get the most sunlight though they will be in the woods. Being they are in pots, would it still be best if I got a pH tester for them? Being in pots will also ensure my fem plants will not get fertilized being beside the males. Though I do plan on fertilizing one female with the males to obtain seeds for next year. Is there any other uses for the males other than that?

Finally, I need some ideas as to where I can hide my plants indoors for 3-4 weeks or so before bringing them outdoors :p.

Thanks in advance and sorry for such a long post. This is also my first post so hi everyone! :D

Who knows about the strains, alot of the names are BS IMO except for established breeders like BOG, DJ Short, Soma, etc.. Doesn't mean they won't be good though.

Haze is just another strain even if they add "purple" to the front of the name. They have the same requirements and needs. You can kill it just as easy as any other.

Growing in pots outdoors is fine but don't fool yourself a male releases so much pollen that plants miles away can be pollinated. Moving a pot will be worthless. Besides you do not want to use feminized seeds for breeding. Buy standard seeds if you want to breed BUT as you are buying F1s your seeds will be F2s where you will need some proper F1 clones to back breed and eventually get that IBL.

Outdoors you are better off digging a hole and preparing a proper soil mix and add some fine dolomite lime to stabilize the pH, moisture retaining vermiculite or the crystals. In regards to the pH meter - its always good to use but are you going to pH adjust and carry how many gallons of water how far?

Unless you are out in the sticks moving some 6' plants in pots around doesn't sound like a very good plan. You are better of finding some native plants to camo the herb. Do some scouting, follow the suns path plan plan plan and use paranoia to temper any choice. If an area is easy to get to then someone else will find it.

Indoors hiding - how would anyone here know? Closet, basement, garage. Move out of Mom's basement :) j/k We have all been there.

    Welcome to the board!

Lol thanks for the reply bill, I appreciate it!

I'm a little confused regarding the whole F1 and F2 concept, could you or anyone elaborate (sorry for my ignorance, just learning)? I guess I won't bother with the pots, it will also keep my plants from becoming root bound. I've found a great spot.. heck I dont even know if I can find it again lol. There is a fence on one side and tall green shrubs on the other that stay green all year around, all within 2-meters apart. Fence will keep animals away as well which is good. What should I do regarding the males? I dont really want to grow a field, just enough for some personal. Should I just get rid of the males once I can distinguish them? Also, there is two forests which I have in mind so it would be possible to seperate the fems, from 1 mother plant and the males. Just don't feel like wasting the males but it is my first grow so I want to keep it as easy as possible.

Lol idk maybe you guys have some clever hiding ideas hehe :). I'm starting to really lean towards clones since I won't have to hide them, ill know their fem which will reduce the chance of me fkn up and ending up with seedy buds. I just don't want to end up with shitty clones with a THC lvl of 2-5%.

I've still gotta brush up on the whole pH testing etc. but I do plan on making sure my pH levels are prime for optimum growth (5.5-7) I believe. As for water, there is a creek/big ditch that seems to have an abundance of running water. I also plan on getting a huge garbage bin, spray painting its exterior dark green and leaving it in the bush somewhere that it can collect rain water.

Thanks again Bill, all other opinions welcome and appreciated! :D

If you are outside don't worry just prepare the soil well and the acidic rain will take care of the rest. You do not want to hang around an outside grow.

Clones are exact genetic duplicates of the mother so if you use a quality mother your clones will be identical. A seeded bud does not lose potency it is just a pain in the ass to take the seeds out and ~ 75% of the weight will be seed :)

For the males - when flowering time begins - chop them when identified. Don't feel bad cover them in soil and mulch em.

Ahhh now for the fun one: F1s are from the initial pollination cross say a NL#5 male x Haze female. Plants from these seeds will be uniform and vigorous. Now keeping in mind the herb has 21 chromosomes (if I remember) you have a buffet of possibilities for the next set of seeds made from the F1s pollinating and seeding each other. You never really know which parent will shine through. Could be a dominate NL#5 or a dominate Haze phenotype. Quite fun actually BUT you also loose the hybid vigor and sometimes inferior genes show up. Now with clones you can breed your F2 males back into the F1 female clone and keep going hopefully it will stabilize and become an inbred line leading to true offspring. <- Reader's Digest version btw. Check out the Cannabis Breeder's Guide by Greg Green - great book.

If this is your first go just be grateful for any bud and chalk it up to the learning curve. It gets better the more you learn. Eventually you will see each grower does things a bit different yet the common theme remains. Air, Light, Water.

Well here is my plan. I have three grow sites, my main site will be of female clones that I obtain. My second site will contain plants in which I've grown from seed. I just want to grow my own from seeds and I think it would be a good learning experience. Having a few different strains would also be pretty cool. Once I can identify the males I will then take 1 male and transplant it to my third site along with 1 female to promote seed growth for next year. The rest of the males will be removed carefully.

    Growing from seed:

I plan to let the seeds germinate in paper towel for about 1 week. I will then transplant them into peatmoss jars that can be directly planted into the ground later. Will keeping these plants by a window be sufficient enough to promote growth? Should they be contained within small green houses made from 2L coke bottles? As of right now there is still too much snow in Canada and I think I will have to wait until early May before bringing them outside.
