I have been wanting to get dreads so I asked around for ways to do it and if i could do it. I have pretty long hair (to bottom of my ribs) but it is very thin. Some people said it won't work because mt hair is too thin and i'll be left with a couple of dreads and a bald head. Others said it will work but I will have shorter dreads because to have the same thickness i'll have to use more of my hair. any suggestions on what i should do? oh yeah and some people also suggested to get it perfessionally done so that it's done right but that is very costly and i kinda think thats bullshit , what do you think .Thanks for any input peace dancing sun
get them done professionally or make sure you know someone who has beautiful dreads that has the same hair type. it is not worth having them look dirty or clumpy....you will be happier with guidance from a stylist even though it may cost a buck.
hell no do not get themn donre professionaly theres no such thing every single 1 does them wrong theres no such thing as a dread stylost proffesionay what they will do is twist and wax costing you 250+ then every 2 weeks twist and wax some more look around here weve had professionaly done messes before every singe 1 had to start over your hair will dread just fine bordon doesnt know what hes talki8ng about
I have very fine hair (but there's a lot of it, so I'm not sure if it counts as "thin"). My hair shrunk a LOT... and I do think it's because of the texture. But I don't worry about it because I know they'll gain length in time. They won't be permanently short, if that's what you're worried about.
youll be fine. ive done dreads on people with thin hair. it didnt look too good first few months to be honest. but now their getting thicker and thicker and look SO much better. you actually cant even tell they had thin hair to begin with. so all in all hell yea you can make dreads in thin hair but you will be at a downside in the beggining cuz you will be able to see the scalp and such. maybe find a nice hat. but dont worry they will phatten up significantly over time. oh and my tip is with thin hair perhaps consider making kinda thin dreads, since with phat dreads youl have realy few dreads. good luck! and dont let people tell you that u cant have dreads.
ya only have bald spots if u do sharp sectioning let it section on its oewn and that wont happen\ thats not always quick or ez tho with thin hair but i agree thinner dreads rathger then thicker would be the way to go often though with thin hair its thinner then it would be from breakage and loss due to combing and brushing and frequent trims when those factors qare removed the hair grows in thicker then it was pre-dreads if u choose backcombing be a lil gentle so as to not thin it mnore in the process and start underneath inthe back and do 1 just to see how it turns out u may decide a more natureal approach like just adding a few beads and letting it do its thing might be better depending on how the backcombing affects it
well that depends on wether she want to back comb or go natural. with back combing you will be able to se the scalp in the beginning. but after that theyll just get phatter n phatter. and be carefull with the sectioning so the sections will overlapp eachother like a brick pattern(i think its callled). but maybe soaring eagle is right if you got realy thin hair maybe natural is better. i dunno realy.
My boyfriend has super thin hair and he wants dreads, but he never knew if he could because of that fact. So one day I tried backcombing his hair to see if it would dread, and it came out real nice. :] I gave him one little dread, but he took it out because his head was hurting. But at least we know that his hair can dread. So my answer would be, yes. Of course, everyone is different. You won't know until you try.
