we arent killing it, im serious, yes we may be accelerating its death slightly, but its gonna die no matter what we do.

proof you say? okeedokee. only evidence i need: oil. what is oil? basically its compressedplant matter, it starts as peat, moves to coal, and then becomes oil. now were is oil found? well ill just use one area, the middle east ie the desert, now a thousand years ago the area that most oil comes from was heavily vegitated, after time passed it bacame desert? hmm so all these places that are all jungle or forest will eventually die and become desert.

im a bit to lazy to continue, but does anyone else understand what im speaking about?

From what I remember in class the russians cut down all the vegetation in the middle east.

i diont believe the world is dying...although i do believe we can really fuck it up. pushing it to a point where we will probably end up killing ourselves.

you have no idea what you are talking about. It is natural for areas of forest to become deserts and areas of deserts to become forest again, the tectonics plates shift and climate conditions change, which leads to a changes in the fauna, flora and overall habitat of an area. In 100 million years all the continents will rejoin to form another mega continent. during that time land masses will change completely.

You have to realize that nature works very slowly on the scale of thousands and millions of years. New land masses are formed by volcanos (although that has slowed down know that earth is older). The planet will eventually die and that is part of nature, but we will all be long gone before that happens. also you have to realize that not all oil is in the middle east. Most of the oil is actually under the oceans, and a lot of oil is in Russia, Canada, The US ( not so much anymore) and other parts of the world.

whoa whoa, i was using the middle east as an example, let me see... nope never said it was all there, and yes most is underwater, because, ding ding ding, there is alot of dead vegitation down there, but maybe you are right and deserts become forest, but can you give me an example?

you actually think it's leaves and plants becoming compressed turning into oil? lol

i love people who post these posts with no research or knowledge behind the subject in hopes that other stoners will just agree and move on

In essence, it's energy from the Sun, trapped and compressed over the years. Everything is powered by the Sun, oil is no different.
