Hey guys, I just quit a few year opiate addiction and am on around day 12, with the withdrawals low to pretty much gone besides the anxiety and insomnia. As I am mainly past the detox part, I was just wondering if anyone knew the duration it takes to actually make a full recovery and have your body be back to normal and feel like a normal human again. I think I heard its somewhere around 3 months or so but am not too sure.

The physical part is different for every one but you are right its usally about 1 to 3 months for most for it to totaly get out of your system and your brain to get back to normal, For me I was usally totaly fine after about a month, The worst part of the sickness for me was the first 3 to 4 days every one knows that. The toal sickness lasted about 7 days to 2 weeks depending on how much Herion I was using at the time, After about 3 weeks to a month I was back to normal again and felt fine. No physical affects at all I could sleep, No hot flashes, no anxiety or depression, no mussle crapms etc, Fuck the physical the mental part is the hardest though and in most opiate addicts will never fully go away, It will subside over time though,As for the mental part When I would first get clean all I would do was think about getting high, using dope, smelling dope, thinking about needles, etc like every 100 times a day I would think about using, But that gets less and less also as time goes on and you stay away form the shit.

Thanks for the replies and support guys, the physical withdrawal is mainly gone and I just take benzos when I get bad anxiety and the depression sucks but I try to just try to have a better outlook on life living without the daily use of opiates, so now for the mental part and hopefully feeling better as time progresses. Just going to have to stick it out and hopefully will feel normal after a couple months.

prod you're hardcore. I can't even imagine what hell you've been through. I couldn't even quit weed for 12 days (as it happened I made it to day 11). I guess one comfort is knowing that you're not alone, but I understand that loneliness is an acute symptom of wd's.

Good luck to every one in this thread struggling with their addiction. I cannot imagine what it must be like to be physically addicted to a substance.

Yeah it is tough but the only way to do it honestly is to want to quit, rather than just quiting because you can't pick up / no money / etc. If you don't want to quit and don't have the willpower there is a good chance of failure.

prod great point you are 100% correct. Every time I would stop using Coke and Dope and kick Herion for reasons like my girl wanted me to,or for my family, For work and school etc It was always the same old shit I would always fail and go back to using. Its not until I got sick of the bull shit and wanted my life back that I really went into getting clean with the right attitude. I myself wanted to get clean and was not doing it for anyone or for a reason but only for myself. Thats when I stopped for good. If you are trying to get straight and stop doing any kind of drugs for someone else or for a reason other then for yourself it will never ever work. You yourself have got to want to get clean. I should never say ever but I am 99.9% sure I will never go back to the Junky Thief scum I ounce was, I hated living life like that and know enuff not to use like I did back then.Don't get me worng I still like to use Herion and coke but I will never let it control my life again never. Back in the day when I was strung out bad on coke and Herion it was a miracle if I could go 2 days with out using. Right now I have not done Herion or a line of coke in 3 months and its does not bother me at all. I think next week I will hit up my dealer and go and buy a few bags of dope and treat myself. I have 4 days off of work and would love to get high for a day or two.

^that's awesome shoc. I've always thought it was silly to absolutely swear off a substance you enjoy, even if you've gotten in trouble with it. I think it all comes down to the reasons why you use...whether it's to escape reality or to enhance the reality that you already enjoy. If a person is using to relieve themselves of the emotions of life, he's seriously cheating himself out of valuable self-education. Emotions are there for a reason, they're not an unfortunate anomoly that victimizes you.

Anyway, whatever the case is, moderation is more divine than total abstinence, IMO

Well, burnabowl, the reason why addicts say the "never again" thing is because for most there is no moderation with them. It's either all or nothing. There's no inbetween, once a week or once a month deal. Its all day everyday, or never again. What is motivating alot of clean people is the fact that they havent used in so long--once they use, they lose that motivation and say what the hell i'll do it again, and you know the rest of the story.

It takes alot of work and willpower to kick the everyday usage and just stick with a every-once-in-a-while pattern after that. It always (in my experience) ends up sliding back into the everyday pattern. I am in awe of those who can moderate their usage!
